Ma Sanli (October 1, 1914 – February 11, 2003) was a Hui chinese actor of the fifth generation and a famous cross-talk performing arts master. Born in Beijing, his ancestral home is Yongchang County, Gansu, and he grew up in Tianjin until his death. Under the influence of his father and brother, he laid a profound foundation of "speaking", "learning", "teasing" and "singing". His teacher, Zhou Deshan, was known for his proficiency in performing "Wen Di" passages. There are more than 200 traditional cross-talk performances, mainly including "Eating lanterns", "Face to face", "Selling Five Instruments", "Opening Porridge Factory" and so on. He has created, adapted and performed 60 or 70 new cross-talk programs, including "Buy Monkeys" and "Folk Remedies to Cure Diseases". Over the years, he has trained yan Xiaoru, Ban Degui, Lian Xiaokun, Fang Xiaotian, Chang Baohua, Gao Xiaolin and many other cross-talk actors. He died in Tianjin in 2003 at the age of 90 due to illness.
