Named after the ancient place name "Huating" in Shanghai, Huating Hotel is one of the six largest hotels in the country approved by the State Council in 1978.
Zhou Zhijun found that the S-shaped building that rose in the 1980s at Huating Hotel is just like the first letter of the beginning of the English Spring, which means that Huating spring is early, and also symbolizes the arrival of Spring in Shanghai in the era of reform and opening up.
On August 28, 1983, Huating Hotel officially broke ground, after nearly 39 months of day and night hard work, meticulous construction, with 1020 rooms of various rooms, Huating Hotel was officially completed and opened in November 1986. As one of the few high-end hotels in China at that time, Huating Hotel received more than 3 million guests at home and abroad in the first ten years of its opening, making a significant contribution to Shanghai's tourism industry.
A retired employee who has worked at Huating Hotel for more than 30 years once recalled:
