The Canadian province of Quebec abandoned plans to collect taxes on those who refused vaccinations

Quebec Governor François Legault announced on January 11 that a "health tax" would be imposed on those who refused to be vaccinated against COVID-19. But the plan was stillborn before it was submitted to the provincial council.

Only about 10 percent of Quebecers who are physically and age-eligible for vaccination have not received a single dose to date, but half of them are hospitalized for COVID-19. Announcing the tax plan, Legg said that this small group of people should contribute to the health of the health care system and the large proportion of the province that has been vaccinated. The plan was supposed to be presented as a bill when the Quebec Parliament resumed this week. But it has come under intense criticism from opposition parties and could spark lawsuits over loopholes in the law.

However, the provincial government's change of intention has also attracted criticism.

No province in Canada currently requires those who refuse to vaccinate to pay fines or additional taxes. However, in countries such as Italy and Greece, the imposition of fines on this part of the population has become a requirement and has been recognized by the public.
