As we all know, mid-size cars have always been the market of joint venture brands, honda accords, Toyota Camry, Nissan Tianlai and other mainstream mid-size cars have a solid position, BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4L and other luxury mid-size cars continue to sell well. Compared with hot-selling brands, the competition between second- and third-tier brands is fierce, most models use price for volume to maintain competition, while independent brands only have a small number of hot sales, and most models are difficult to compete with joint venture brands in this market segment.
From the overall list, the ranking of medium-sized cars in 2021 is still relatively large, the Honda Accord was overtaken by camry, the BMW 3 Series led the Mercedes-Benz C-Class by nearly 40,000 vehicles, the Tesla Model 3 appeared in the top ten of the list as the only electric vehicle, and only the Hongqi H5 and Xiaopeng P7 sold more than 50,000 vehicles in their own brands.
Among the Japanese Three Musketeers, the 2021 mid-size car sales championship was won by Toyota Camry, which led the Honda Accord and Nissan Tianlai with sales of 217,700 units, and was the only medium-sized car with annual sales of more than 200,000 units. From the data point of view, honda Accord outperformed the Toyota Camry by nearly 20,000 units, and won the second place of mid-size cars with 197,700 units. The reason for the loss of toyota Camry may be related to its restructuring in the middle of the year. In October 2021, the mid-term reform of the Accord listing, the price range of 169,800-259,800 yuan, there is a certain gap in the listing of new cars, for consumers who intend to buy new cars will wait and see, and the new car listing in the short term has less preferential margins, which are the reasons why Honda Accord lost the Toyota Camry. As for the Nissan Tianlai, although it is one of the three Japanese musketeers, its sales have always been lower than that of camry and Accord, with a cumulative annual sales of 163,700 vehicles.
In addition, Volkswagen Magotan and Volkswagen Passat as sister models, the difference in sales between the two models is not very large, of which Maiteng's cumulative sales of 134,000 vehicles in the whole year, Passat's total sales of 131,300 vehicles, of which Maiteng sales decline is more serious, its cumulative sales in 2020 is 164,700 vehicles. In contrast, Passat experienced the collision storm of The China Insurance Research Institute, and after SAIC Volkswagen took the initiative to apply for and completed the second entry into the China Insurance Research Institute and obtained excellent collision results, the current market performance is relatively stable, and there is a certain increase in sales compared with 2020.
In third place is the luxury mid-size BMW 3 Series, with cumulative sales of 170,200 units during the year, ahead of Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4L, of which Mercedes-Benz C-Class is 130,300 units, Audi A4L is 121,800 units, and BMW 3 Series is strongly leading the same class model. From the data point of view, the Audi A4L fell from 130,900 units in 2020 to 121,800 units, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class fell from 152,300 units in 2020 to 130,300 units, and the BMW 3 Series increased from 156,200 units in 2020 to 170,200 units. Fundamentally, the chip shortage has a more serious impact on Mercedes-Benz and Audi.
The Tesla Model 3 is the only pure electric vehicle in the top ten list, with cumulative sales of 150,900 units for the whole year, an increase from 135,400 units in 2020. Of course, at present, Tesla's Shanghai factory undertakes the task of Tesla's overseas exports, and most of the models Tesla exports from China in 2021 are Model 3 models, and if they are only supplied to the domestic market, Model 3 will have better performance.
Subsequently, Buick Regal's annual sales also exceeded 100,000 units, reaching 107,400 units. The Hongqi H5 is the highest-selling model among its own brand mid-size cars, with a cumulative annual sales of 80,300 units, which is enough to compete with some second- and third-tier joint venture models. As a new power model, the Xiaopeng P7 has accumulated sales of 60,600 units in the whole year, second only to the Model 3, and is also the second autonomous model to appear in the list. As a sister model of the Accord, Honda Yingshipai is far less market performance than the Honda Accord, and it will also undergo a mid-term redesign in 2021, but it is expected to be difficult to change its market situation, with cumulative sales of 52,900 units in 2021. Due to the delisting of FAW Mazda, Mazda Artez's sales performance was very sluggish, with only 20,400 units sold in the whole year. In addition, the Korean Hyundai Sonata and Kia K5 can only recover some sales after completing the replacement, and the new generation of models continues to compete for the market with a new design language, with sales of 21,600 and 18,100 vehicles in 2020, but sales in 2021 fell to 9156 and 14,800.
The overall sales of French models are sluggish, and the sales of models such as Peugeot 508 and Citroen C6 are low, which is also the embodiment of the sales of DPCA in China. However, Dongfeng Citroen launched the Versailles C5X during the year, and the model now seems to have signs of saving the Citroën brand, with sales of 12,100 units in four months of listing.
As for the models with dismal sales, most of them are new energy models, such as Kia K5 plug-in hybrid, DS9 PHEV, Peugeot 508L PHEV, Hyundai Sonata PHEV and so on. Judging from the list, only two joint venture new energy models exceed 10,000 units, of which the Passat PHEV is 14902 and the Magotan GTE is 10055.
Judging from the list, medium-sized cars as a whole rely on mainstream joint venture brands such as Honda, Toyota, and Volkswagen, and under the pressure of German-Japanese joint venture brands, some second- and third-tier brands can only increase the discounts in the terminal market to maintain the overall sales level. In terms of independent brands, Hongqi H5 is a more representative model, while Xiaopeng P7, as the only electric vehicle out of the circle, can compete with some second- and third-tier joint venture models. As for Korean and French brands, they still continue to develop in a sluggish manner.
