IT Home News on January 24, as we all know, the shortage of chips and the uncertainty caused by the epidemic have had a greater negative impact on the automotive industry last year. However, consumer preferences for car types in different countries and regions have not changed much.
A few days ago, the overseas automotive media Motor1 released a relevant survey report, which shows that in the past 2021, the best-selling models in different countries and regions in the world, according to these models, we can also understand the differences in consumer preferences around the world.
For example, consumers in North America are still "crazy" for SUVs and pickups, while consumers in Europe still prefer small cars; Australia, Argentina and Brazil all prefer medium-sized trucks, while in densely populated countries such as Indonesia, they clearly prefer MPVs.
North America: The obvious choice

▲ The best-selling vehicle in the United States
The Ford F-Series continues to dominate the U.S. market, with 726004 units sold in 2021 (including the F-150, F-250, F-350 and F-450). Nearly five of every 100 light vehicles sold in the U.S. in 2021 will be the Ford F-Series. The winners of the second and third places were the Dow Flag Ram series pickup truck and the Chevrolet Silverado. As of 2021, their combined market share is 11.9%.
The Ford F-Series is also Canada's best-selling car, selling 111332 units.
South America: Also passionate about pickup trucks
▲ Brazil's best-selling vehicle
South America also loves pickups – albeit a bit small. Brazil is the largest automotive market in Latin America, with Fiat Strada leading the market with 109107 units in 2021, accounting for 5.5% of the total market.
That's the best result since the release of this small pickup in 1996. The Hyundai HB20 hatchback and Fiat Argo came in second and third, respectively.
▲ The best-selling vehicle in Argentina
The Fiat Cronos is the best-selling car in Argentina. This small, locally made four-door sedan inspires consumer confidence due to its good price, appearance and wide sales network.
Toyota Hilux has been the market leader in Argentina for the past three years, but ranked second in 2021. The other was the Volkswagen Amarok, which came in third.
Hatchbacks are still popular in Europe
▲ Germany's best-selling model
The situation in Europe is interesting. The Volkswagen Golf is still the most popular car in Germany, but its share is declining year by year. Golf's biggest challengers in Germany come from other Volkswagen products, such as T-Roc and Tiguan, which rank second and third, respectively.
▲ The best-selling model in France
In France, Europe's second-largest automotive market, the Peugeot 208 beat the Renault Clio. This is the first time since 2004 that Peugeot's small B-Class hatchback has sold more than Renault's competitors.
However, neither French hatchback expected strong growth in third place, Dacia Sandero, up 44 percent from 2020.
▲ The BEST-selling vehicle in the UK
The UK is in transition in 2021. For the first time since 2009, the Ford Fiesta has not finished first. Instead, Vauxhall Corsa topped the charts for the first time since its launch. Meanwhile, the Tesla Model 3 occupies second place, the best it has achieved in the world's top 10 automotive markets. In third place is the Mini.
▲ The best-selling vehicle in Italy
Unlike the UK, Italy's top three cars will have little change in 2021. Fiat Panda, which holds the top spot with 112298 vehicles and a 7.6% market share, has sales up 1.2% from 2020 but down 18.8% from 2019.
The Fiat 500 and Lancia Ypsilon ranked second and third respectively. Together, they account for 13.8% of total new car sales in Italy.
▲ The best-selling vehicle in Spain
Spain's top three include two SUVs, seat Arona and Hyundai Tucson, and a sedan, the Dacia Sandero. This is the first time Arona has taken the lead since its launch in 2017.
Of course, Hyundai's strong performance in Spain is justified. Tucson, just entering its fourth generation, beat out other hot competitors in the field, including the Nissan Qashqai Qashqai (14,626 units), the Volkswagen Tiguan (7,990 units) and the Peugeot 3008 (16,831 units).
▲ The best-selling vehicle in Hungary
Suzuki dominates the Hungarian market with a share of nearly 15%. Among them, suzuki Vitara (Vitra) is the best-selling, and S-Cross is the second place. In fact, Vitara has been the best-selling product in the country since 2016. The Fiat 500 ranked third, its best performance since entering the market.
▲ Turkey's best-selling vehicle
In the Turkish market, Fiat Egea is in the lead, while toyota corolla and Renault Clio HB are second and third respectively.
Russia's Elada and Indonesia's MPV
▲ The best-selling vehicle in Russia
Russia's domestically produced Rada dominates in Russia. Vesta topped the list with nearly 113,700 units, up 6 percent from 2020. Granta came in second, but its sales fell 12 percent. Kia Rio ranked third.
▲ Indonesia's best-selling vehicle
Indonesia is the second largest automotive market in Southeast Asia, after Thailand. MPVs account for 45% of new car sales in the country. In 2021, Toyota Avanza is in the lead. The Mitsubishi Xpander came in second, and Suzuki Carry came in third.
