In May 1949, Zhang Lao joined the Chinese People's Liberation Army, and from October to December of the same year, he participated in the campaign to liberate Hubei and Sichuan; on October 20, 1950, Zhang Lao and his comrades crossed the Yalu River, and then fought in Korea until July 1953, when they ushered in a comprehensive victory in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea.
Talking about the years of bloody struggle, Elder Zhang was very excited, he said that under the international situation at that time, the war to resist the United States and aid Korea, but also to defend their own country, the situation we faced was very difficult, "We originally garrisoned in the Yichang area of Hubei Province, after receiving the order, we set off urgently, from Wuhan all the way to Dandong, Liaoning..." Zhang Lao's simple narration infected everyone at the scene, he said, the reality is more difficult than the movie "Changjin Lake", and the battle is more brutal.
Professor Zhao Ren, vice president of Ruijin Hospital and expert in gastrointestinal tumors, held Zhang Lao's hand and said: "The development and strength of the motherland cannot be separated from the great Chinese people, without the victory of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, there will be no rapid development of the motherland, we want to pay tribute to you!" At the end of September last year, Zhang Lao was admitted to a local hospital due to symptoms such as difficulty in defecation and blood in the stool, and abdominal CT and gastrointestinal endoscopy showed that there was a malignant tumor of the rectum 4 cm from the anus.
Because the elderly are older and the risk of surgery is high, the local hospital recommends conservative treatment. The children couldn't bear it, and ran to many hospitals with reports, hoping to do their best to operate, but they were too old to operate because Zhang was too old.
The family did not give up, and learned that the clinical experience and technical level of gastrointestinal surgery of Ruijin Hospital were top in Shanghai and even the whole country, so they came to Shanghai.
Professor Zhao Ren learned of this situation, immediately notified the family to the northern campus for hospitalization, arranged relevant examinations for Elder Zhang, and jointly assessed the anesthesia department, neurology, imaging department, and oncology department of the hospital to prepare for the operation.
In fact, Zhang Lao had a colon malignant tumor 10 years ago, when he did open abdominal colon cancer radical treatment and colostomy surgery, and Zhang Lao's rectal tumor was larger, and there were problems such as pelvic stenosis, coupled with the factors of advanced age, the operation needed to be carefully prepared.
Under the leadership of Professor Zhao Ren, rectal tumor resection began, during the operation, it was found that the intra-abdominal tissue adhesions were serious, the anatomy was completely changed, due to the abdominal cocoon signs in the abdominal cavity after the previous two surgeries, the operation required a long separation of adhesions, to find the correct anatomical level, and then found that the patient's pelvis was abnormally narrow, and the operation was extremely difficult. After 6 hours of hard work, the operation was successfully completed.
