However, in his later years, whenever the media came to interview Deng Xiaoping's Baise uprising, he had to say to the media:

These words not only show Deng Xiaoping's lofty style and bright festival, but also show his nostalgia and admiration for his revolutionary comrades-in-arms.
So, who is Li Mingrui? Of course, he was also a well-known figure, one of the main leaders of the Baise Uprising, one of Deng Xiaoping's most admired ones, and a famous leader in the early days of our army. But, you know what? In Li Mingrui's heart, who does he admire most? It was his cousin Yu Zuobai.
Yu Zuobai, if you only ask this question, you may not know much. However, as everyone knows, there were two main units of the Baise Uprising, one led by Li Mingrui and one led by Yu Zuoyu, which were later organized into the Red Seventh Army and the Red Eighth Army.
You may not know that these two units originally belonged to Yu Zuobai's troops, which were pulled up by him, Yu Zuoyu was Yu Zuobai's brother, and Li Mingrui was his cousin.

So, how did Yu Zuobai pull up this unit? Later, how did it come to Li Mingrui and Yu Zuoyu?
This has to start from Yu Zuobai's early experience. It should be affirmed that although Yu Zuobai is a Warlord of the Gui clan. However, he maintained close ties and cooperation with the Communist Party throughout his life, so in his later years he was recognized by the state.
Speaking of which, Yu Zuobai's experience in Guangxi was also very bumpy. At an early age, he had passionate revolutionary ideals and vowed to overthrow the corrupt rule of the Qing government. Therefore, he joined the League early.

After the outbreak, Yu Zuobai decided to become a soldier. He believed that only a thorough armed revolution could truly overthrow the Qing government.
Later, he was admitted to the Baoding Military Academy, and was a third-term student with Huang Shaohu and Bai Chongxi, and after Yu Zuobai entered the military academy, he conscientiously studied the military, performed positively in various activities, and was more famous than Bai Chongxi, and often received military academy medals. After graduation, the three of them were assigned to the First Division of the Guangxi Army as probationary platoon leaders.
At that time, the Beiyang government had regulations that all military cadets who graduated could be promoted to platoon commanders after six months of training in the army. However, Yu Zuobai's probationary period was about to be a year, and he was not promoted to platoon leader, which made him very depressed, feeling that it was not the right time, did not meet Bo Le, and even had the idea of retiring from the army.
Fortunately, Huang Shaohu and Bai Chongxi kept comforting him, and he slowly accepted this reality.
However, soon after, Huang Shaohu and Bai Chongxi both entered the model battalion and became deputy company commanders, while Yu Zuobai was still a probationary platoon leader, and he felt that he had to leave here.

He thought about it for a long time and finally made up his mind. Just at this time, he got the news that Lin Hu's troops needed people. He left here directly and ran to Lin Hu.
Lin Hu looked at Yu Zuobai's achievements in the military school and felt that he was a talent, so he immediately left him behind and awarded him the rank of lieutenant staff officer.
Because Lin Hu's troops expanded rapidly, there was a shortage of personnel at all levels. Within a year, Yu Zuobai became a company commander because of his excellent performance. And his battalion commander was None other than Li Zongren.
On the road of Yu Zuobai's early growth, Li Zongren gave him great care and guidance, and seeing that he was a good seedling, he carefully took him. And Yu Zuobai was also very grateful to Li Zongren for his promotion.
Later, Lin Hu served as the commander-in-chief of the Guangdong-Guangdong Border Defense Army, and held different opinions on the issue of sending troops to Guangdong Chen Jiongming, and finally the Guangdong-Guangdong Border Defense Army was defeated and lost power.
With Lin Hu's loss of power, Yu Zuobai was cornered and began to think about his next step. At the critical moment, Li Zongren's Guangxi Border Guard took him in.

After Lin Hu lost power, Yu Zuobai was also excluded, and Li Zongren wrote him a letter hoping that he could come to the Guangxi Border Defense Army. Yu Zuobai caught a life-saving straw at a critical moment, and he was certainly willing to do so, and soon came to the Guangxi Border Defense Army.
Li Zongren knew that he could fight a good battle, and he also trusted him very much, and directly appointed him as the commander of the First Route Army, and Yu Zuobai was able to settle down and slowly develop and grow.
Development is not ideal
After Li Zongren's troops were stable, Yu Zuobai began to plan his future. The experience of these years has made him understand a truth, must have its own troops, otherwise, if you want to achieve development, it is never possible to become a powerful hegemon.
Therefore, in Li Zongren's border guards, he worked very hard, relying on Li Zongren's big tree to recruit soldiers and buy horses at every opportunity. Soon after, the opportunity came, and the position of commander of the two units of the border guard was vacant, and Yu Zuobai thought that with his qualifications and merits, he should be able to become a commander.
But he did not expect that Li Zongren had not considered him at all, and this was really not a small blow to him, and he could see that he had not become Li Zongren's confidant, and Li Zongren was only using him, which further strengthened his idea of going it alone.
At this time, his strength had increased, and there were already two battalions of troops that could be supported.
At this time, Huang Shaohu and Li Zongren separated, and Huang Shaohu secretly contacted Yu Zuobai, hoping that he would pull out his two battalions, follow him, and give him a regimental commander.
Of course, Yu Zuobai was willing, and without hesitation, he left Li Zongren and came to Huang Shaohu. However, the troops could not be easily pulled away. After Li Zongren knew that he had pulled away the troops, he immediately sent people to intercept them, and Yu Zuobai tried his best to pull out only one battalion to run to Huang Shaohu, and the other battalion was intercepted.
Fortunately, Huang Shaohu did not think that he was too short of soldiers, and fulfilled his promise to make him the leader of the new regiment.

He had only one battalion under him, not enough for a regiment, so he had to recruit some more recruits and put one battalion into two battalions. In order to better grasp this unit, he appointed Li Mingrui as the commander of the first battalion and his younger brother Yu Zuoyu as the commander of the second battalion.
After all, it is a regimental shelf, and Yu Zuobai has the capital for development. To this end, he identified every opportunity and began to expand his troops.
In order to have the capital to expand, Yu Zuobai fought particularly hard, and many times he took the initiative to rush to the front line and gnaw the hardest bones, and if there was an opportunity to capture prisoners of war or equipment, he would not let go.
In a short time, his troops began to grow. In particular, after helping Huang Shaohu defeat Huang Bingxun and Feng Baochu, Huang Shaohu was very grateful to him, and even gave him 500 men, horses and guns, and also allocated a part of the funds, and Yu Zuobai's strength to fight was even stronger.

However, among the warlords, there is no such thing as gratitude and gratitude for the sake of profit and preservation of strength.
After Huang Shaohu and Li Zongren parted ways, they felt that their strength had been seriously weakened, and it was more difficult to survive. Therefore, he regretted it and privately found Li Zongren, hoping to unite again.
Li Zongren's strength at that time was also weakened, thinking that he would be able to gain a firm foothold in Guangxi in the future, and with his current strength, he would definitely not be able to do so, and he had to join forces with Huang Shaohu, so he agreed to his wish to join forces again.
But as soon as they joined forces, Yu Zuobai was bitter. I ran out of Li Zongren at the beginning, and now I am back, but how to mix? There is no way but to wait and see how it changes. Fortunately, Li Zongren thought about the overall situation and did not clean him up, but chose to accept. While strengthening his own strength, after all, Yu Zuobai was leading a regiment, and on the other hand, he was also his old subordinate, and he couldn't bear it.
Yu Zuobai returned to Li Zongren's men again. However, Li Zongren still made some responses, let him leave the new regiment, and transferred him to become the principal of the first branch of the Central Military and Political School.
Obviously, this is a reduction of his military power, but there is still a position. Yu Zuobai is not a fool, he will not sit by and watch Li Zongren slowly digest him. The troops in his hands had become a brigade, with Li Mingrui as the brigade commander, and he still reported to him at all times about anything, so he still firmly controlled it in private.
Although Yu Zuobai was transferred to the head of the military academy, his ambitions were not buried. Although he lost his military power, his desire to recruit soldiers and horses and intend to make a comeback became stronger and stronger. Just at this time, the opportunity came.
There was a peasant movement in Donglan County, which was ruled by the Xingui system, and Yu Zuobai felt that this was an opportunity, so he secretly supported guns and ammunition in the hope of turning around with this riot, but in the end, he was defeated by Li Zongren, and Yu Zuobai was also discovered by Li Zongren as a supporter behind the scenes, and Yu Zuobai had to flee to Hong Kong.
After the outbreak of the Chiang-Gui War, Chiang Kai-shek, in order to quickly eliminate Li Zongren, contacted Yu Zuobai and told him that as long as he instigated the troops in Guangxi to oppose Li Zongren, he would make him the chairman of Guangxi.
Later, he directly instigated Li Mingrui's 15th Division to turn against Li Zongren, which led to Li Zongren's downfall, and Chiang Kai-shek really made him the chairman of Guangxi.
However, he did not heed the advice of our Party, and after his wings hardened, he wanted to oppose Chiang Kai-shek, and as a result, he was defeated by Chiang Kai-shek within four days and had to return to Hong Kong. The remnants of the troops, commanded by Li Mingrui and Yu Zuoyu, retreated to Baise, which led to the later Baise Uprising.
During the War of Resistance Against Japan, Yu Zuobai returned to the mainland and asked to resist Japan. But Chiang Kai-shek was still jealous of him and only gave him a false post, and later, he had to retire.
In 1956, Yu Zuobai chose to return to the mainland to settle down as a member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and died of illness in 1959.
