Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng answered reporters' questions

On January 18, 2022, Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng attended the opening ceremony of the annual macro situation forum held by the Chongyang Institute of Finance of Chinese Min University and delivered a speech.

Le Yucheng said that the new crown epidemic has been repeatedly delayed, the century-old changes have accelerated and evolved, peace and development have encountered "headwinds", major country relations, global governance, regional hotspots and other continued tensions and turbulence, and many countries have shown crises to varying degrees in political, economic, social, epidemic and foreign relations, and the whole world has become chaotic and intertwined. At the beginning of last year, the "great fall" of the US Capitol Hill occurred, and then the world witnessed the "great rout" of the US military in Kabul, the epidemic in many countries at the end of the year and the beginning of the year was once again "out of control", and the world economy was facing the most serious "big inflation" in 40 years. Some countries simply threw away the blame, blamed others, and even provoked a "new Cold War," which disturbed the world's tranquility and markedly increased various risks and hidden dangers.

Le Yucheng pointed out that the fundamental way out of today's world lies in the promotion of building a community with a shared future for mankind advocated by President Xi Jinping. This major concept clearly answers the question of the times of "what is wrong with the world, what should we do" and has become a clear banner for China to lead the trend of the times and the progress of human civilization. President Xi Jinping pointed out in his speech at the Davos Forum that to promote the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind, we must adhere to dialogue rather than confrontation, inclusiveness without exclusivity, oppose all forms of unilateralism and protectionism, and oppose all forms of hegemonism and power politics. This is a further enrichment and development of the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind, and fully demonstrates President Xi Jinping's strong responsibility and responsibility for safeguarding and promoting world peace and justice. The upcoming Beijing Winter Olympics will play the main theme of "everything to the future" and will also add a new movement of color to the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Le Yucheng pointed out that there are six highlight moments in China's diplomacy in 2021: First, President Xi Jinping put forward the "Global Development Initiative" at the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, which is another important contribution made by China to promote stronger, greener and healthier global development and accelerate the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development; second, China and Russia solemnly commemorate the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Sino-Russian Treaty of Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation, which has opened a new journey of friendship and win-win cooperation between the two countries for generations; third, the first video meeting between the heads of state of China and the United States. Frank and in-depth communication on fundamental, overall and strategic issues related to the development of Sino-US relations; fourth, Ms. Meng Wanzhou returned to China safely, when she said affectionately to the camera, "If the faith has color, it must be China's red", I believe that the hearts of 1.4 billion Chinese are full of emotion and pride; fifth, the opening of the China-Laos Railway has made Laos leap from a "land-locked country" to a "land-linked country", setting another successful model for jointly building the "Belt and Road"; sixth, China's vaccines have helped the global fight against the epidemic. In one year, China has provided more than 2 billion doses of vaccines to more than 120 countries and international organizations, and half of the vaccines currently used in the world come from China.

Le Yucheng stressed that there are too many fraud phenomena in the world at present, and there are too many lies against China. Under the banner of "multilateralism," a few countries engage in "group politics," or wear "democratic" vests as teachers and go around swindling and deceitfully concocting ugly farces of "democracy" against "authoritarianism." Some countries have spread political viruses and made various groundless accusations against China's fight against the epidemic in the name of tracing the origin of the virus; hyped up the "tough theory of China's diplomacy" and even labeled China as "coercive diplomacy"; accused China of violating international rules, trying to overthrow the current order, and claiming to maintain the so-called "rules-based international order", and so on. For these fake and shoddy words and deeds, we are unceremonious and resolutely "crack down on fake and disinfected", so that they are exposed to their original form and have nowhere to hide.

"In the face of such 'extreme competition', are we still counting on China to be indifferent, to be caught with its hands tied, and to be slaughtered by others? It was an old imperial dream more than 100 years ago, and it was time to wake up. ”

Le Yucheng said that the world is in a big change, China has entered a new era, and the new era needs new ideas and great wisdom. "Cracking down on counterfeiting and disinfection" is not only the task of the diplomatic front, but also the common mission of experts and scholars. I hope that everyone will go out of the study hall and go to the world, dare to correct the name of the party, defend the country, and speak for the people, show the style and responsibility of Chinese scholars, and make greater contributions to promoting communication and understanding between China and the world.

With regard to the current Sino-US relations, Le Yucheng pointed out that the crux of the difficult situation in the relations between the two countries lies in the fact that the United States pursues a wrong China policy, a wrong understanding of China, and a wrong view of the times and the world, and it is getting deeper and deeper in the "China threat theory." It cannot extricate itself, deliberately suppresses and contains China, and is willing to tirelessly provoke competition and confrontation among major powers. China certainly does not want any war, whether it is a hot war, a Cold War, or a "new Cold War." President Biden vowed from the podium of the UN General Assembly not to fight a "new Cold War," but looking at the actions of the United States, it is obvious that they have not done so; they hold the Cold War mentality, use Cold War tools, and piece together the Cold War bloc, which is actually a disguised fight against the "new Cold War." We advocate moving toward the future together, rather than traveling back to the Cold War era, and hope that the United States will implement its commitment not to fight a "new Cold War." There is competition between China and the United States in some specific areas, but "competition" cannot be used to define the entire Sino-US relationship. Rather than saying that Sino-US relations have entered an "era of competition," we would rather advocate leading Sino-US relations to an "era of peaceful coexistence." China and the United States should abandon boxing and compete in athletics, and win the game and win the future by being better at themselves.

Le Yucheng also stressed that China's total economic volume is no more than that of the United States, and we are not interested in it, nor is it our pursuit. It is the goal of the Communist Party of China to let the 1.4 billion Chinese live a good life and meet the people's yearning for a better life. You know, there are still 1 billion people in China who have not flown on, more than 200 million Chinese families without flush toilets, and only 4% of Chinese have a bachelor's degree or above, compared with 25% in the United States. This is what we should attach great importance to and strive to change. Compared with whether GDP is super-beautiful, we attach more importance to our ability to catch up with and surpass in terms of ideology, governance capabilities and contributions to the world, and strive to be more advanced, more in line with the expectations of the people, and more in line with the trend of the times.

Le Yucheng also said that Taiwan is not the territory of other countries, but China's sacred territory, and China has indisputable sovereignty over Taiwan, which is the premise and starting point for discussing all issues in Taiwan. The United States claims to pursue the one-China policy, but in action it brazenly supports "Taiwan independence," constantly erodes China's sovereignty, "steps on the red line" and "cuts sausages," sends military advisers to Taiwan, and transports advanced weapons to Taiwan. This is to create "two Chinas" and "one China, one Taiwan," to hollow out and virtualize the principle of one China, and to fake the one China policy. On the issue of opposing "Taiwan independence" and safeguarding "one China," the Chinese side has no room to back down and will not make any compromises. There is only one option for Taiwan's future, and that is reunification. The resumption of diplomatic relations between Nicaragua and China at the end of last year represents the aspirations of the people and the trend of the times, and represents international justice and historical inevitability. By pursuing Taiwan independence and making a fuss about separatism, the road of the Taiwan authorities is bound to become narrower and narrower, and they will eventually go to the end of the road and become lonely and widowed, and it will be sooner or later that the "countries with diplomatic relations" will return to zero. China must be reunified, and it is bound to be reunified, and this is an irresistible historical process. As President Xi Jinping pointed out, no one should underestimate the strong determination, firm will and strong ability of the Chinese people to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
