The first "Jimu News" International Chinese Character Writing Competition was guided by the China Hard Pen Calligraphy Association and the Hubei Calligraphers Association, sponsored by the Hubei Hard Pen Calligraphers Association and Jimu News (Chutian Metropolis Daily), and co-organized by the Culture and Tourism Bureau of Huangpi District of Wuhan City. Since its launch at the end of April 2021, the competition has received entries from more than a dozen countries such as Malaysia, the United States and Australia. The youngest of the contestants is 5 years old and the oldest is 80 years old. In July, the judging committee of the competition selected 2217 works from around the world to participate in the preliminary evaluation and re-evaluation, and finally 777 works were shortlisted for the final evaluation.

According to reports, the competition presents the characteristics of young authors, rich book bodies and wide coverage. The finalists of children's group A and group B accounted for about 60% of the entire final works; seal, li, kai, line and grass were combined, and brush works and hard pen works competed with each other. The competition covers a wide range, and Li Zhaoyin, chairman of the American Chinese Calligraphers Association, writes works to express his support for the competition; calligraphy enthusiasts from South Korea, Australia and other countries also send entries; many college students enthusiastically submit articles and participate in the competition.

At the final evaluation site, a jury composed of experts such as Liu Changzhong, chairman of Hubei Hard Pen Calligraphers Association, Wang Zhenliang, senior consultant of Hubei Hard Pen Calligraphers Association, Xu Guosheng, director of the Calligraphy Committee of Wuhan Calligraphers Association, Qu Zhongmou, vice chairman of Hubei Calligraphers Association and chairman of Wuhan Calligraphers Association, and Chen Ai, vice chairman of Hubei Hard Pen Calligraphers Association, were divided into two groups and strictly selected the finalists.

At the judging meeting, Pang Zhonghua also guided the judging work of the first "Jimu News" International Chinese Character Writing Competition through video connection, and praised the competition at the same time.

After the selection, the final 304 people won the children's A group, children's B group, youth group, university students group, adult group and other categories.
