In the last years of the Qing Dynasty, social unrest and the people were miserable. In particular, the Qing Dynasty was closed to foreign countries and did not communicate with foreign countries, making China very backward, and later the Western powers even signed many unequal treaties with China, and finally they even invaded and occupied Beijing by the Eight-Power Alliance, so more and more people with lofty ideals raised the banner and rebelled against the Qing Dynasty. At first, there was dr. Sun Yat-sen's Republic of China, but later, the warlords in various places divided and many parties were formed.
The largest of these, the Kuomintang, even encircled and suppressed its own Communist Party. Finally, the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression broke out, and the Kuomintang and the Communists cooperated and unanimously went to the outside world. After eight years of war of resistance against Japan, it was finally victorious. But the fruits of victory had not yet been tasted, and the Nationalists and communists turned their faces again and started a civil war again. At first, the Kuomintang had a great advantage, but slowly, there were more and more Communists, and after the major battles of Liaoshen, Huaihai, and Pingjin, the Communists won a comprehensive victory. A million men then crossed the river and occupied Nanjing on April 23.
Later, Chiang Kai-shek led his men to flee to Chongqing to continue the struggle against the Communists, but they still could not save the defeat. Eventually fled to Taiwan. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Communist Party of China did not forget to recover Taiwan. Continue to fight the Kuomintang to the end. Battles such as the Battle of Kinmen were fought. However, due to the insufficient strength of the communist water army, it did not succeed. Later, the Communist Party learned from its experience and attacked the small islands first, and finally recovered Hainan Island in 1950. The Kuomintang, trapped on the isolated island, began to panic, because they knew that the Communist Party would certainly not let the Kuomintang live in Taiwan for a lifetime. The Kuomintang began to think about where it should flee if Taiwan was captured by the Communists.
But we looked up the information and found that Chiang Kai-shek had visited abroad in the second half of 1949. So where did he go? The answer is our neighbor, the Philippines. As early as 1946, when the Philippines gained independence with the help of the United States, Chiang Kai-shek's Nationalist government signed a good treaty with the Philippine government. His visit to the Philippines in 1949 had only two purposes. The first is to hope that the President of the Philippines can help him intercede with the United States. Let the United States include Taiwan in the strategic defense line of the United States in the western Pacific, so that it will not be afraid of the Communists attacking and occupying Taiwan. But at that time, the United States had already abandoned Chiang Kai-shek, so this goal did not succeed. The second purpose was to see if Taiwan was really captured, and to see if the Philippines could take in the exiled Nationalist government.
At that time, a reporter asked the Philippine president whether the Philippines would consider taking in the Kuomintang if Taiwan was occupied, and the Philippine president replied that he would accept it. But everyone actually knows that without the consent of the United States, all efforts are in vain.
Later, when someone asked him whether he wanted to evacuate in time and leave Taiwan, Chiang Kai-shek said that even if the communist army landed, it would take two or three days to attack, and it would be too late to withdraw at that time. And even if he fled, he wouldn't go to the Philippines. Someone asked him if he was going to Switzerland, and he said he wouldn't go, and most likely he would go to Japan.
However, nothing had happened yet, and under the control of the United States, it attacked North Korea. China's task of liberating Taiwan can only be temporarily suppressed, first to assist its neighbor North Korea. This fight is a few years. After the end of the Korean War, the Communists also tried to liberate Taiwan, but never succeeded. In the end, Chiang Kai-shek did not embark on the road of exile in Japan.
