Walking into the martyrs' cemetery, the battle flag of Shangganling is tragic and majestic, and Qiu Shaoyun's Type 50 submachine gun is painful

"Chosin Lake" was screened, and the heroic volunteers made the audience shed tears again and again. "Qingshan buried loyal bones everywhere, why should Ma Ge wrap the body back", these two poems are the best portrayal of the soldiers who sacrificed themselves in the Korean battlefield. However, as descendants, we have the responsibility to give the heroes a home, and many volunteer soldiers eventually "settled" in the Martyrs' Cemetery of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea in Shenyang. Yang Gensi, Huang Jiguang, Qiu Shaoyun and others have their own "home" here, and the items they used before their lives have also been preserved and exhibited as state-protected cultural relics.

Behind every tombstone and every cultural relic, there is a tragic history worth remembering for future generations.

Shenyang Martyrs' Cemetery for Resisting US Aggression and Aiding Korea

People living in Shenyang (when they were students) may have visited the Martyrs' Cemetery of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea on a Certain Qingming Festival. Like most historical and revolutionary memorials, the Martyrs' Cemetery does not charge a ticket and is free to visit with an ID card.

As long as you are willing to understand the story of the volunteer army and are willing to learn the history of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, you can go at any time.

Yang Gensi's tombstone is easy to find, and he was placed in the first row of the tombstone area along with Yang Liandi, Qiu Shaoyun, Sun Zhanyuan and Huang Jiguang (the tombstone area is on the right side of the monument in the picture below). The flowers in front of the tombstone have not yet withered, and there are not a few people who come to visit on national day. It is said that the film crew of "Chosin Lake" also came to the Martyrs' Cemetery on September 30, 2021 to worship, and it is not known how many prototype characters of the "Seven Companies" were buried here.

In addition to the tombstones of many martyrs, the Martyrs' Cemetery also has a memorial hall, which contains many photos, objects and video materials of some battles. The items may be a little old, but they are absolutely "valuable", just like the "worn-out" military flag in the picture below. Notice the word "inserted"? Where are the volunteers going to "insert" it? Shangganling, to be precise, is the main peak position of Shangganling.

The battle flag planted to the main peak of Shangganling

As we all know, after seven days of the Battle of Shangganling, all the soldiers of the 45th Division of the 15th Army retreated to the tunnel. The lost surface positions must always be retaken, and the military flag must be planted back on the main peak position. Looking at this "broken" battle flag, I don't know how many soldiers of the 15th and 12th Armies fell on the way to the main peak.

Like Huang Jiguang and Sun Zhanyuan (who sacrificed before retreating to the tunnel), they sacrificed their young and precious lives to protect the Five Holy Mountains and not to retreat from the volunteer army's defensive line.

If the battle flag of Shangganling is tragic and majestic, and behind it is a group of unsung heroes, then another item treasured in the museum has a clear owner. He was Qiu Shaoyun, a first-class hero and a well-known volunteer soldier in the Chinese, and the item was a Type 50 submachine gun, a charred submachine gun (the Type 50 submachine gun was modeled after the Soviet PPSH-41, that is, the Bobosa submachine gun).

The submachine gun that Qiu Shaoyun used before his death

From the picture above, we can clearly see that the butt part is badly burned. There is no need to say more about Qiu Shaoyun's deeds, and such a quality of will is really unimaginable to ordinary people. Presumably, everyone who has seen this submachine gun is very uncomfortable, and we are distressed by Qiu Shaoyun and the volunteer soldiers. Next to that submachine gun were two relics of Qiu Shaoyun, which were more shocking than the butt of the gun.

On the left are fragments of cotton clothes, and on the right are burned stumps

If it weren't for the staff in the museum who explained the items, I wouldn't even know how to name the things on the left of the picture above:

Fragments of cotton clothes worn by Qiu Shaoyun before his sacrifice.

Each piece of burned cotton clothes represented Qiu Shaoyun's suffering of silently enduring the burning fire, and no amount of verbal description could compare with the object in front of him.

On the right side of the picture is a blackened tree stumps. Perhaps in the process of Qiu Shaoyun enduring the burning, he would desperately clench his teeth and grasp this tree stump fiercely. If this is the case, and if doing so can alleviate a little pain in Qiu Shaoyun's body psychologically, we are willing to commemorate this "great" tree stump like we commemorate Qiu Shaoyun.

To this day, we still don't know much about Qiu Shaoyun's specific appearance. However, a very precious photograph is preserved in the museum, that is, a photo of Qiu Shaoyun's younger brother Qiu Shaohua and Ma Xinnian, the company commander of the 3rd Battalion, 9th Company, 87th Regiment, 29th Division, 29th Division of the Volunteer Army (Qiu Shaoyun's unit before his death). The quality of this photo is not very good, but it gives us the opportunity to imagine Qiu Shaoyun's appearance through Qiu Shaohua's appearance. No matter what he looks like, he is a hero that every Chinese reveres.

The Martyrs' Cemetery of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea is the hero's home, and since 2014, 8 groups of martyrs' remains have been transported here from South Korea. It is the responsibility of future generations to take heroes home, and at the same time, they want them to "witness" that "the mountains and rivers are unharmed", and the motherland they defend with their lives will become stronger and stronger.
