Born in 1930 in Tongzi County, Guizhou, Chen Daquan grew up in a poor family, was captured by the Kuomintang army at the age of 15 and became a Zhuangding, after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, he followed the troops to revolt and joined the ranks of the People's Liberation Army, and then participated in the liberation war everywhere. In 1950, when the Korean War broke out, Chen Daquan's unit was ordered to resist the United States and aid Korea and enter the Korean War, so he and Qiu Shaoyun met and became friends.
Qiu Shaoyun was born in 1926 in Tongliang County, Sichuan Province, although he and Chen Daquan both had the same tragic childhood, but Qiu Shaoyun was even more unfortunate, he lost his parents since childhood, and grew up with his brother. When Qiu Shaoyun was young, in order to keep himself and his brother alive, the two brothers begged along the street, as long as they got food, they would always give half of it to their younger brother, and when they were a little older, Qiu Shaoyun worked for the landlord to support himself and his brother, but at that time, when the Liberation War broke out, the Kuomintang army went to the countryside to arrest Zhuang Ding in order to expand its strength, and Qiu Shaoyun, who was rushing home after finishing his work, was forcibly pulled by the Kuomintang army to become a soldier. Later, Liu Deng's army liberated Chengdu, and Qiu Shaoyun's unit revolted, so he joined the Ranks of the People's Liberation Army with his comrades-in-arms, and then followed the troops to Korea to participate in the battle.
After Chen Daquan and Qiu Shaoyun arrived in Korea, they did not participate in the battle for the first time, but first carried out a period of training, fate, the two were assigned to the same class, in the process of training through chat, and learned that the two experiences before enlistment were very similar, and there was always endless topics in the subsequent relationship, and gradually established a deep friendship.
Soon after the training ended, Chen Daquan, who had always been a machine gunner in the army, was assigned to the machine gun company, and Qiu Shaoyun was assigned to the reconnaissance company, after which the two had to follow the troops to participate in different battles, Chen Daquan and Qiu Shaoyun both knew that the Korean War was tragic, and did not know whether this farewell would be seen again in the future. Before the troops went to North Korea, the soldiers all wore military uniforms and took a one-inch crown-free photo, which was the first time Qiu Shaoyun took a photo and the first photo he owned, and he gave this precious photo to Chen Daquan and wrote in his own handwriting on the back of the photo: "To dear Comrade Chen Daquan as a souvenir, comrade-in-arms Qiu Shaoyun, the date is February 19, 1952." Although the two were divided into different teams, Chen Daquan also participated in the battle in which Qiu Shaoyun was sacrificed. In early October 1952, the Battle of Shangganling was on the verge of breaking out, and the 391 Heights in the hands of the US Army was a very important strategic position, and taking it meant that the Battle of Shangganling would have a greater chance of victory. However, the 391 heights protruded in isolation in the open area, and the US army deployed a reinforced company on the high ground, and the military fortifications were very strong, which could be described as easy to defend and difficult to attack, but our army finally decided to take the 391 highlands first, and this task fell to Qiu Shaoyun's company.
In order to be able to surprise the enemy and take the position in one fell swoop, under the order of the commander, Qiu Shaoyun's commando team took advantage of the night and the cover of reeds to lurk to the front of the enemy's position, only more than sixty meters away from the sentry, because the follow-up troops had not yet all reached the designated position, Qiu Shaoyun and his comrades-in-arms still needed to continue to lurk, waiting for the order to launch an attack, and in this way, the soldiers lurked under the eyes of the enemy for more than ten hours. However, just a few hours before the attack was launched, two enemies suddenly came from the position in the direction of our army, and in order to prevent the lurking fighters from being exposed, the artillery of our army immediately fired a shell at the enemy's position after receiving the order.
It was the time of autumn and winter, the sky was dry, the cold wind was accustomed, the reeds were ignited immediately after encountering incendiary bombs, and the lit reeds were scattered with the wind, a small flame fell on the shoulders of the soldiers who were lurking, at this time, Qiu Shaoyun, who was lying nearby, immediately signaled his comrades to extinguish with the soil next to him, fortunately, the flames were not extinguished in time, the soldier was not a big problem, but the next moment the reeds near Qiu Shaoyun's legs burned up, and as the flames grew larger, his cotton clothes and cotton pants were also ignited, and soon the whole body fell into a sea of fire. At this time, Qiu Shaoyun was lying on the ground, clenching his teeth, even if his hands were deeply inserted into the dirt, he was still motionless, letting the fire burn on his body, and the whole time he did not say a word, and the comrades around him could only watch him take his life by the flames.
In fact, not far from where Qiu Shaoyun was lurking, there was a small river ditch, and as long as he rolled into the ditch, the flames on his body would be extinguished, but he did not do this, because he was a soldier who was on a mission, and if he exposed his whereabouts, it would bring disaster to his comrades-in-arms and even the entire army, so he chose to sacrifice himself. At this time, Chen Daquan's machine gun company was taking cover on the mountain, and although he could not see the comrades who were ambushing under the mountain, he could see the flames burning in the ambush area of the comrades.
In the evening, the general offensive began, the soldiers who had been lurking for a day and a night rushed to the enemy position with full of anger, each soldier was extremely angry, all killed the red eye, after a fierce battle, completely annihilated the enemy, successfully took the 391 heights, and then the Battle of Shangganling began, Chen Daquan's troops participated in the battle, in the fierce battle, the entire squad was destroyed, only he and the squad leader were left on the position, in order to stop the enemy's attack, Chen Daquan set up a machine gun to shoot wildly, and the squad leader threw grenades at the enemy troops. While passing bullets for Chen Daquan, he repelled many enemy attacks with the mutual cooperation of the two men, and finally waited for reinforcements at the last moment.
After the battle, the soldiers of the 15th Army, where Qiu Shaoyun belonged, found Qiu Shaoyun's body on a burned slope, almost all of his military clothes and rubber shoes were burned, leaving only a palm-sized fragment, the only thing that was not scorched in the whole body was the pair of hands inserted in the dirt, and after the comrades-in-arms brought Qiu Shaoyun's body back to the army, they held a funeral for him, and after learning of Qiu Shaoyun's deeds, they awarded him the Special Meritorious Service Medal and awarded him the glorious title of "First Class Hero of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army", after that, Qiu Shaoyun's heroic deeds were publicized nationwide and became well-known.
In the Battle of Shangganling, Chen Daquan's right arm and left knee were penetrated by bullets, leaving him permanently disabled, and it was precisely because of his heroic performance on the battlefield that his company was awarded the collective first class merit. In 1954, when the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea ended, Chen Daquan returned to China with the large troops, when a wave of soldiers were discharged and transferred to work throughout the country, and Chen Daquan was also among them, and he was assigned to work in Xinjiang. However, Chen Daquan had not returned home for many years, and he could walk down the battlefield alive, and he only wanted to stay with his family, so he refused the organization's work arrangements, returned to his hometown to participate in construction, and then returned to peasant life.
In the later life, Chen Daquan has been living an ordinary life silently, hardly mentioning his experience of resisting US aggression and aiding Korea to anyone, and also cherishing his friendship with the martyr Qiu Shaoyun in his heart. Later, his wife died of illness, Chen Daquan lived alone, and when he was young, he could still do farm work and make a living by farming, but as he grew older, he could only live on the minimum guarantee and the relief of the state.
