The second son of the deposed prince (Hongyao), who was beloved by Him, was specially named Prince" (太子)." Words passed.
The gist of this sentence is that before Kangxi died, he called Yongzheng to him and said, "Although Yin Rong and Yin Zhen did not do well before, you must treat them well." In addition, I like Yin's second prince Hongyao very much, and you want to make him a prince. ’
At first glance, this sentence does not make much sense, but considering that this is the royal family, and it is the last words of the previous emperor before his death, it is not so simple.
First of all, let's divide the circumstances in which Kangxi said this. Since this sentence can be recorded in the korean historical materials, it shows that this conversation was completely public, and there were definitely many members at the scene, otherwise the envoys of Korea as vassal states would never be qualified to appear and record.
So, can it also be said that when Kangxi said it to Yongzheng, he also deliberately let the surrounding ministers hear it and play a supervisory role? If Yongzheng disobeys his own explanation, will he be discussed or even bluntly advised by the ministers? Therefore, Kangxi's words, Yongzheng did not dare to disobey even if he sat on the emperor.
In addition, although Kangxi only named two princes and one imperial grandson, clear-eyed people can see the meaning of the Kangxi Emperor's words:
Kangxi did not directly say that Yongzheng treat all the princes kindly, in fact, it also left room for Yongzheng, after all, the slightest carelessness in the "Nine Sons and Concubines" will be crushed to pieces, and the various princes have long ignored the brotherly feelings in order to compete for the throne, and some of these princes have definitely done things that are unfavorable to Yongzheng, and Yongzheng will not let these people go after he takes the throne.
Therefore, Kangxi knew that he could not stop Yongzheng, so he took a step back from each side, and I did not stop you from dealing with political enemies, but I also did not allow you to be too arrogant.
Finally, Kangxi said that letting Yongzheng make Hongyao the prince would not only be able to protect his imperial grandchildren to the greatest extent, but also make them grateful to Yongzheng and ensure the harmony of uncles and nephews. It's a two-pronged approach.
This was Kangxi's last careful machine before his death. Although it seems simple, the emperor's words and deeds cannot be treated with common sense.
Sure enough, after the Yongzheng Emperor ascended the throne, he severely punished the emperor's eighth son, Yin Yu, the main opponent in the seizure of power, and although the third son of the emperor, Yin Yu, the ninth son of the emperor, and Yin Ou, the tenth son of the emperor, were also targeted at Yongzheng, Yongzheng also obeyed Kangxi's words and did not condemn them too seriously. Other people who had participated in the conquest but had not targeted Yongzheng were also given preferential treatment.
As for Hongyao, after Yongzheng ascended the throne, he was first made the prince of the county, and then promoted to prince, and the rest of his nephews were also rewarded with more or less titles. As Kangxi expected, the relationship between Hongyao and Yongzheng was very good, according to the "Yongzheng Dynasty Manchu Commentary on the Complete Translation of the Folding", Hongyao also referred to Yongzheng as his father in the non-official chapter, which shows how good the relationship between the two was.
