Canada investigates Tesla's heating system

On Thursday, Canadian auto safety regulators said they had launched an investigation into the heating systems of Tesla Model 3 and Model Y cars, after 16 consumer complaints that Tesla cars could not function properly in cold weather.

Transport Canada said it was concerned that if the heating and air conditioning system failed, it could affect windshield defogging/defrosting, which could affect driver visibility and increase the risk of traffic accidents.

Transport Canada said: "When a company discovers a defect that could affect personal safety, it must notify Transport Canada and all existing car owners... These notifications are often referred to as 'safety recalls'. ”

The regulator said it had notified Tesla of the investigation.

In 2020, Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted about Tesla's heat pump system: "The Model Y's heat pump is one of the best projects I've seen in my time. ”

According to Drive Tesla Canada, a media outlet focused on Tesla news, many Tesla owners complain that Tesla's heat pump system will fail in extreme low temperatures.

The report said that early last year, Tesla replaced the heat pump sensors of the Model 3 and Model Y models from 2020 to 2021 to solve this problem.
