Zheng Dongguo, born in 1903 to a peasant family in Shimen, Hunan Province, studied the Four Books and Five Classics in a private school when he was young.

After the outbreak of the May Fourth Movement, Zheng Dongguo, who was far away in the countryside, was deeply inspired by the revolutionary storm and went to the streets with his classmates to carry out patriotic propaganda.

Zheng Dongguo, then the brigade commander, was ordered to hold the front line position of the South Tianmen Gate and fought a bloody battle with the enemy for eight days and eight nights, and successfully held the position.

When his troops withdrew to rest, they heard that Liu Jie's 68th Division position had been breached by the Japanese army, and Zheng Dongguo was impatient, regardless of the serious attrition of the troops and the physical exhaustion, rushed to the front line.

At a critical juncture, in order to show his determination to coexist and die with the position, Zheng Dongguo took off his military uniform, wore a white shirt, and personally charged at the enemy with a gun.

Later, due to the corruption of the authorities, the Great Wall Resistance ended in failure, but Zheng Dongguo killed Heheweiming.

After the Japanese army invaded China in an all-round way, Zheng Dongguo led his troops to all parts of the country, and successively participated in famous battles such as the Battle of Xuzhou, the Battle of Kunlun Pass, and the Battle of Changsha.

In 1948, our army successively captured a number of important towns in the northeast, and Changchun, where Zheng Dongguo was sitting, was surrounded by PLA regiments. Although he led his troops to break through many times, they were stubbornly blocked by our army and were forced to shrink into the city.

On October 16, Zeng Zesheng led the 60th Army to declare an uprising. There was no way to retreat, and Zheng Dongguo, who had no troops to use, was disheartened and determined to die, and just as he was about to draw his gun and commit suicide, his men stopped him, and it turned out that they had already negotiated peace with our army in the name of Zheng Dongguo, announced the surrender uprising, and Changchun was liberated.

After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Zheng Dongguo was received by the prime minister and the family moved to Beijing. He has also successively served as a counselor of the Ministry of Water Resources, a member of the National Defense Commission, a member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and other important state posts.

In 1991, Zheng Dongguo, a famous anti-Japanese general, died of illness in Beijing at the age of 88.
