After the murder, the police and Japanese consuls in the Japanese Concession in Fuzhou quickly arrived. Consul Tamura protested to the Fuzhou police, demanding that the case be solved as soon as possible and that the safety of the local Japanese be guaranteed, otherwise it would cause serious consequences.
Originally, it was only a criminal case, but the reaction of the Japanese military was very large, and the navy and army stationed in Taiwan sent telegrams to the Fujian government, and there was a great posture that they would start a war if they did not solve the case as soon as possible. The Fujian side did find that the Japanese troops in Fuzhou and Taiwan were already assembled and ready to land at any time, not just talking.
The Fujian government had a headache at this time, and the Japanese army had just invaded the northeast a few months ago, so did it want to take action against Fujian? The strength of the Japanese army stationed in Taiwan is far superior to that of the Fujian side, and as long as the war starts, the Chinese army will absolutely not be able to resist the Japanese army.
At this critical moment, Consul Murata suddenly ran over and said that the Mito murder case must be closed as soon as possible, and he made three demands: a public apology from the Fuzhou government; the execution of the murderer; and compensation for the orphans of the deceased for fifty thousand yuan, and the sooner the better, otherwise the situation may get out of control.
The Fujian government finally understood and quickly apologized and paid compensation, but the Tangtang provincial government could not even come up with 50,000 yuan, so it had to plead with Murata if it could be reduced to 20,000 yuan, and Murata did not expect that Murata actually agreed. So the remaining problem is to punish the murderer, and the case has not been completely understood.
Murata, too, relaxed, asked the Fuzhou government to hold a memorial service at the elementary school where Mito worked, and promised to solve the case as soon as possible and strengthen the protection of Japanese in China. Consul Murata then sent a telegram to both the Japanese government and the Japanese military headquarters in Taiwan, saying that the Mito case had been properly resolved.
Since this was the case, the Japanese warships, which had already rushed to the waters off Fuzhou and were rattling with swords, had no choice but to retreat in sorrow. The Fujian government finally breathed a sigh of relief, and it seemed that the September 18 incident would not be repeated in Fuzhou, and a shocking conspiracy was stopped.
Despite this, Fuzhou has not relaxed its investigation of the Mito case, and there is still no clue when it can be checked and checked. The Mito family has always been kind to people, and not a single enemy, and the scene of the crime shows that the murderer is only here to kill people and has no interest in money.
Therefore, some people doubted whether the Japanese had created the case themselves, just under the pretext of launching a military offensive. But if this were the case, consul Murata behaved strangely, apparently trying to calm the situation and prevent conflict from breaking out.
Soon after, Consul Murata's term of office expired, and before returning home, he revealed the inside story. At that time, the Japanese troops stationed in Taiwan did have the intention of studying the aggression launched by September 18, but thanks to the full cooperation of all parties, the situation was avoided from deteriorating, and they did not find an excuse to go to war.
The Fuzhou side did not fight, but the Japanese army still provoked a war. On January 28, shortly after the Mito case, the "128 Incident" broke out in Shanghai, and the Japanese troops stationed in Shanghai launched an attack on the Chinese defenders.
Fortunately, the 19th Route Army stationed in Shanghai did not collapse without a fight like the Northeast Army, and resolutely fought back against the provocations of the Japanese army. The 19th Route Army received support from the people of the whole country, so that the Japanese attack was not successful.
The 19th Route Army was a Cantonese unit, and at that time there was a battalion commander who performed well in battle and was transferred to the Central Army as a regimental attaché. His commander was Xie Jinyuan, the regimental commander who led the eight hundred brave men, who defended Shanghai twice.
As for the Mito case, it was not until the outbreak of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the fall of Fuzhou that no one found out the truth. The murderer was Li Luji, a Ronin from Taiwan, who was hired by the Japanese army stationed in Taiwan to kill the Japanese in Fuzhou to create an excuse for aggression. It can be seen that within the Japanese government, the aggressive policy of the military department is not fully recognized, and Murata is one of them, so that Murata's abnormal behavior can be explained.
China's weakness in the face of aggression led to the Japanese germinating ambitions to annex China. And if we also choose to retreat in the face of the Korean War, who can guarantee that the Americans will not gain inches?
