Today, we introduce marquess of Ailsa from the British isle of Alsa, a Scottish nobleman, winner of the Order of the Thistle (KT) and Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS). At the coronation of William IV on 10 September 1831, Archibald Kennedy III, 12th Earl of Cassilis, was made Marquis of Elsa, knighted by the king, and his second son's daughter-in-law was also the bastard daughter of the king and Lady Jordan.

Archibald Kennedy III was born in February 1770 as the eldest son of the 11th Earl of Casillas to the daughter of John Watts, Anne, who was descended from the Schuler family, the Van Cortland family (including stephanus Van Cortlandt) and the British North American Terance family.

Historically, the Title of Count of Cassiris was established in 1509 for the 3rd Baron Kennedy, who was a Scottish nobleman established in 1457. On 12 November 1806, Archibald Kennedy was made Baron Elsa, a nobleman of the United Kingdom. The marquis's full title comes from Ailsa Craig in the Firth of Clyde.

From 1792 to 1794, his courtesy title after his father succeeded to the earldom was Baron Kennedy. On 30 December 1794, Kennedy succeeded his father as Earl of Cassilis, the 12th Earl of Casillas, serving in the House of Lords from 1796 to 1806 as a representative of the Scottish nobility. On 12 November 1806, Archibald Kennedy was made Baron Elsa of Elsa, a nobleman of the United Kingdom, with the right to automatically receive a seat in the House of Lords. On 18 February 1819, he was admitted to the Royal Society as a member.

At the coronation of William IV on 10 September 1831, Archibald Kennedy III, 12th Earl of Casillas, was made Marquess of Ailsa on the island of Elsa, Ayr. In 1832, he voted in favor of the Reform Act. In 1820, George IV awarded him the Order of the Thistle, an achievement archbord had long desired.

The Marquis of Elsa loved to gamble, owned horses, competed in many races, won trophies in 1801 and 1802, and Clementina, Scaramucci, Pegasus, the Speaker and Trimer were all famous horse racers he raised. He and 13 others founded the Ayr Gold Cup, which is held once a year and only Scottish-trained horses compete for more than 2 miles.

On 1 June 1793, the Marquis of Elsa married Margaret Erskine, the third daughter of John Erskine and Mary Erskine of Duntown, Forfar. The two have 6 children.

The eldest son, Archibald Kennedy, born in 1794 with the courtesy title of Count Cassiris, died in 1832 before his father, married Eleanor Allardyce, with descendants, and a son who succeeded to the marquisate.

Lady Anne Kennedy (1798–1877), who was associated with Sir David Baird of Newbyth, 2nd Baronet, was a descendant.

Lady Margaret Kennedy (1800–1889) married Thomas Radclyffe-Livingstone-Eyre.

Lady Mary Kennedy (1800–1886) married Richard Oswald, the son of Richard Alexander Oswald, a congressman representing Ocean Kroof.

Lady Alicia Jane Kennedy (1805–1887) married Jonathan Peel, Secretary of War, and had offspring.

In 1846, the 1st Marquis of Elsa died, and his grandson Archibald Kennedy succeeded to the marquisate.

The Marquis of Elsa bought a house near London's Twickenham, formerly owned by playwright Richard Brinsley Sheridan. He named the new house "St. Margherita", a name that has now been applied throughout the neighborhood, and Elsa Road and Elsa Avenue in the Santa Margaret area are also named after his knighthood. One of the Beatles' songs was filmed in the "St. Margaret's" townhouse.
