For the end of the heroes, in our eyes, their ultimate fate is sacrifice, and in that situation, no one can survive. However, some of the five heroes of Wolf's Tooth Mountain still survived, and some of them found their own troops.
Later, after the expulsion of the Japanese Kou, the victory of the War of Resistance, and the liberation of the whole country, this survivor left the army and returned to his hometown to work as a farmer, he was Song Xueyi.

For this reason, when the company wanted to apply for battle merit for him, he was strongly rejected by Song Xueyi, who believed that it was enough to let everyone know what they had done at Wolf's Tooth Mountain, and that it was completely unnecessary for those feats of fame and fortune.
Moreover, Song Xueyi felt that once he walked through the ghost gate, he would be very lucky to be alive, so why should he pursue those illusory things?
Although Song Xueyi insisted on not making battle merits, the company still reported their deeds and the military merits they had asked for him to report to their superiors, who in turn reported them to the Party Central Committee, which attached great importance to the deeds of the five brave men of Wolf-Tooth Mountain, and also made a special trip to let people record the details of the battle at that time in detail and compile them into a pamphlet for everyone to study.

In order to appease his emotions and to let him learn more knowledge, the chief also specially arranged for the teacher to give him one-on-one make-up lessons, and the leaders hoped to train Song Xueyi into an excellent anti-war general.
In 1944, Song Xueyi applied to the organization for a job transfer, and Song Xueyi told the organization that his waist injury was very serious, which had seriously affected his normal life, and that it was a burden for him to stay in the army, and he did not want to increase the burden of the army, hoping that the army would allow him to return to his hometown to work as a farmer.
In order to retain him, the chief of Song Xueyi's unit personally did his ideological work several times, and the chiefs told Song Xueyi that even if he could no longer fight on the front line because of a waist injury, he could go to the logistics department of the unit to do some work, and there was no need to leave the unit.
However, Song Xueyi still insisted on changing jobs and returning to the locality, and the chiefs could not resist him and could only agree to his request. After Song Xueyi left the army, he returned to Yi County, Hebei Province, as a demobilized soldier, and settled here, and after a few years, he returned to his hometown to work as a farmer with his family.
After returning to his hometown, he never told anyone that he was a combat hero, nor did he ever tell others that he was one of the five heroes of Wolf's Tooth Mountain (at that time, the five heroes of Wolf's Tooth Mountain had been widely circulated throughout the country under the propaganda of the Party Central Committee).
His relatives and friends only know that he was demobilized and returned home because of his injuries, and as for other circumstances, Song Xueyi did not say, and the villagers did not know.
In view of Song Xueyi's serious waist injury, the government proposed to give him a living allowance every month, but Song Xueyi refused the government's subsidy, he believes that he has hands and feet, he can completely support himself, support the family, there is no need to waste the state's subsidies, but also because of Song Xueyi's stubbornness, resulting in their family's life is very poor.
Song Xueyi ignored the old injuries, led the whole family to work hard in farming, but due to waist injuries and other physical reasons, he could not engage in heavy physical labor for a long time, every time he worked for a while, he had to rest for a while, every night when he returned home, he had waist pain so much that he could not eat, in order not to let more people see, he could only quietly hide in the house, moaning in pain, and the next day, he wore a special waist steel card to continue working.
This anti-Japanese hero, who was born into death, lived so low-key that even his family did not know his deeds, and many years later, Song Xueyi's son Song Fubao recalled:
"I didn't know from a young age that my father was a hero, only that my father was a soldier and was wounded, and my father never mentioned the reason for his injury and career change."
In 1951, the Party Central Committee prepared to hold a national congress of veterans and martyrs, and Song Xueyi, as the only survivor of the five heroes of Wolf's Tooth Mountain, was also one of the invited guests. When the Party Central Committee sent the list to the Qinyang County Government, the county government officials were a little incredulous, they never expected that little Qinyang would have such a famous combat hero.
Due to the long time, but Song Xueyi quietly returned to his hometown Qinyang after changing careers, but the household registration was still placed in his wife's hometown of Yi County, at that time, due to inconvenient transportation and information technology, the Qinyang County government could not find out where Song Xueyi lived for a while, and in desperation, they could only send people to Yi County to find Song Xueyi.
Song Xueyi has been low-key, coupled with rare appearances, the commissioner to Yi County did not find a trace of Song Xueyi, although, the commissioner did not find Song Xueyi, but found their father-in-law, in the end, Song Xueyi's old father-in-law wrote a letter to Send to Song Xueyi, at this time Song Xueyi knew that the Party Central Committee was looking for himself.

The commissioners visited Song Xueyi's house to see the furnishings in his home, and when Song Xueyi's wife saw her husband walking away, he mysteriously took out a medal engraved with resolute and tenaciousness to show the commissioner, and there was also a photo of General Yang Chengwu and Song Xueyi of the Jin-Cha-Ji Military Region at that time.
After that, the county began to vigorously publicize Song Xueyi's glorious deeds, and once this matter was publicized, Song Xueyi's relatives and friends all exploded, and they never expected that Song Xueyi was actually a combat hero, and he was also a well-known combat hero.
Relatives, friends, and villagers looked at Song Xueyi with different eyes, their eyes were full of admiration, and even many villagers came to their homes with grain and eggs.
Song Xueyi's heart for the villagers is mostly a gentle refusal, he said that he is not a combat hero, he is a soldier, then he must fulfill the obligations of a soldier, and there is nothing great about what Wolfa Mountain has done.
In 1959, on the tenth anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China, Song Xueyi was invited to Beijing and met Chairman Mao. According to the recollection of Song Xueyi's descendants, when Chairman Mao received Song Xueyi, he began to hand him a cigarette, but Song Xueyi did not catch it, and later, he handed him a cigarette.

When the story of Song Xueyi spread in Qinyang and even Henan Province, his early experience also came into view of everyone, Song Xueyi was born in Qinyang Beikong Village, a poor peasant family, the family barely lived on two acres of thin fields, due to the old government at that time, the grain was immediately sent to the government as soon as it was finished, which also led to the Song family living a starved life.
In order to support his family, Song Xueyi's father often worked for the landlord to earn money in his spare time, and when Song Xueyi was older, he also worked for the landlord with his father.
After the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Henan as the main battlefield of the war, the people were living in turmoil, the Song family in order to survive can only borrow usurious loans from the landlords (a total of 40 silver dollars), later, the landlords took the opportunity to take the Song Xueyi family's only two acres of land, from then on, the family had no place to live, had to leave their hometown, fled to other places to beg for food.
Song Xueyi followed his parents to Hebei, just happened to encounter an Eighth Route Army guerrilla group, Song Xueyi in order to enable his children to survive, he recommended his son Song Xueyi to the guerrilla leader, hoping that the guerrillas could give the children a bite of food to eat, the guerrilla leader looked at the yellow-skinned Song Xueyi, and his heart was soft and he absorbed him into the guerrilla group.
After Song Xueyi joined the guerrillas, he was incorporated into the seven companies of the first division of the Jin-Cha-Ji Military Region. Song Xueyi in order to thank the troops for their kindness, he worked diligently and treated people friendly, and gradually, the comrades in arms liked this diligent young man, so everyone took very good care of him, with the help of comrades-in-arms, Song Xueyi also quickly mastered the essentials of rifle shooting, and quickly became an excellent guerrilla fighter.
In the autumn of 1941, in order to suppress the Jin-Cha-Ji forces, the Invading Japanese Army mobilized nearly 100,000 troops to begin encircling and suppressing the base areas of Beiyue and Pingxi, in a vain attempt to suppress the Jin-Cha-Ji Communist forces in one fell swoop.
Song Xueyi's unit was stationed in the Wolfa Mountain area of Yi County, Hebei Province, and the Japanese army organized more than 3,000 troops to storm the Wolfa Mountain, due to the fierce offensive of the Japanese army, coupled with the small scale of the troops in the Wolfa Mountain area at that time, the weapons were also scarce, and in desperation, the head of the military region could only choose to transfer.
At this time, the Japanese army had surrounded Wolf's Tooth Mountain from many directions, and if it was to be transferred, it meant that it was necessary to break through. As a result, the head of the military region led a team of more than 2,000 people who could participate in the battle to carry out a breakthrough operation, and after the bloody battle of the soldiers, the troops finally opened a gap to break through.
At this point, however, the problem arises again, because the troops are in a breakout operation, the time available to them is very short, and once the enemy reacts, then the troops and the masses will be in a desperate situation. Later, after discussion, the commanders of the military region decided to leave some troops to lead the enemy away and buy time for the masses to move, and the glorious task of leading the enemy fell to The Seventh Company, where Song Xueyi belonged.
Because it was a breakout operation, there were not many soldiers left in the entire Seventh Company at that time, but the Seventh Company still had to take on the task of attracting firepower and providing cover for the transfer of the masses. At this time, the seventh company was able to send very few fighters to attract firepower, and the commander of the seventh company ordered Song Xueyi's squad to be responsible for attracting firepower, and song Xueyi's 6th squad had four comrades who could not fight because they were wounded, so the burden of attracting fire fell on the other five (Ma Baoyu, Ge Zhenlin, Hu Fucai, Hu Fulin, and Song Xueyi).
Despite this nine deaths, the 6 squads of warriors gladly accepted this task, which led to the deeds of the five heroes of Wolf's Tooth Mountain.
The five brave men dragged the enemy for a long time, and finally, because they ran out of ammunition and food, they were in danger of being captured by the enemy, and the squad leader Ma Baoyu said to the soldiers:
"Comrades, we are now in a desperate situation, but in spite of this, we cannot be caught by the enemy, let's jump off the cliff together!"
At this time, the soldiers of the 6th squad also played bloody, and when they heard the proposal of the squad leader, they all said that they regarded death as if they were returning home, and everyone jumped off the cliff.
After jumping off the cliff, Ge Zhenlin and Song Xueyi were accidentally hung up by the small tree, and both of them survived, fortunately, yu Yaofu, the master of the Yixian Youth Anti-Japanese Salvation Association at that time, was nearby, and he saw Ge Zhenlin and Song Xueyi and quickly saved them, so that the two escaped from death.
After returning to the army, both of them won the five-star medal of resolute and tenacious, and later, Ge Zhenlin chose to stay in the army, and Song Xueyi chose to change careers and go home, which is Song Xueyi's deeds in Wolf's Tooth Mountain.
Recalling the battle at Wolf's Tooth Mountain, Song Xueyi always said:
"It was not a heroic act, it was just my duty as a soldier, my only regret is that I did not sacrifice with my comrades-in-arms, since I am still alive, then I should live well and contribute my share to the motherland and the people."
