For a long time, people thought that these five brave soldiers were all sacrificed, but in fact, there was not, deputy squad leader Ge Zhenlin and warrior Song Xueyi, after jumping off the cliff, they were blocked by branches in the middle of the mountain, and fortunately survived, so what was the final outcome of these two survivors?
In October 1940, in order to counter the Retaliatory Sweep of the Japanese Army, the Eighth Route Army mobilized 105 regiments to launch the Hundred Regiments War behind the enemy in North China, and within three and a half months, it fought fiercely with the Japanese army 1824 times, killing and wounding more than 20,000 Japanese troops, and the transportation and base areas of the Japanese army behind the enemy were destroyed on a large scale.
In August 1941, Okamura Ningji gathered 100,000 Japanese troops and launched a large-scale sweep in the Jin-Cha-Ji region, and in early September, the vanguard of the Japanese army arrived in the Wolfa Mountain area in an attempt to find the main force of the Eighth Route Army and fight a decisive battle with it.
At that time, the Japanese army was menacing, the Eighth Route Army naturally would not be the move, the troops of the First Military Sub-district of the Jin-Cha-Ji District were transferred with the masses, and the soldiers responsible for the break were the soldiers of the Seventh Company, and after several battles, the Seventh Company successfully attracted the Japanese army and let the large troops complete the transfer task, but the Japanese army has been trailing the Seventh Company and cannot get rid of it.
Therefore, Ma Baoyu, the leader of the sixth squad of the Seventh Company, who was only 21 years old, took over this task, and together with the deputy squad leader Ge Zhenlin, took song Xueyi, Hu Delin, and Hu Fucai, three fighters, took advantage of the steep terrain of The Wolf's Tooth Mountain to launch a Zhou Xuan with the Japanese army, in order to convince the Japanese army that they were the main force, the soldiers of the sixth squad, after firing a shot, changed places, first rifles, grenades, bullets, and then smashed the Japanese army with stones, just like this, insisted until the time agreed with the Seventh Company.
When completing the task and preparing to withdraw, the sixth squad encountered a problem at a fork in the road, to the north, you can catch up with the large troops, but it will also expose the direction of the large troops, to the south is the checkerboard, which is a dead end road leading to the top of the mountain, what to do? In order not to give up the previous achievements, in the end, the squad leader Ma Baoyu decided to lead the warriors to a desperate road!
Soon, a large number of Japanese troops were deceived, led by the soldiers of the sixth class to advance towards the chessboard, and after being surrounded by Japanese troops at the top of the mountain, five brave men broke their guns, shouted to defeat imperialism, and jumped off the cliff!
After jumping off the cliff, the deputy squad leader Ge Zhenlin and the soldier Song Xueyi, who survived by luck, were rescued by their comrades-in-arms, and later, the Jin-Cha-Ji Military Region held a celebration meeting, and the two were awarded the five-star medal of "resolute and tenacious", but later the two chose different paths.
Soldier Song Xueyi, who chose a profession in 1944, became the chairman of the peasant association in Yi County, Hebei Province, and married Li Guirong, a girl born of poor peasants, and in 1947, after the liberation of Song Xueyi's hometown of Jiaozuo in Henan, Song Xueyi returned to his hometown of Beikong Village with his wife and children.
After returning to his hometown, Song Xueyi never regarded himself as a hero, led the people of Beikong Village to start a hard business, and served as the secretary of the party branch of Beikong Village, and died in 1971 at the age of 53.
In 1955, he was awarded the rank of major general for military merit, and after returning from Korea, he served as deputy director of the Hengyang Municipal People's Armed Forces Department and deputy director of the Logistics Department of the Hengyang Garrison District.
In 1982, Ge Zhenlin retired, but after retirement, Ge Zhenlin was still unwilling to be idle, and put most of his energy on caring for the growth of teenagers, serving as an off-campus counselor for more than 20 primary and secondary schools in Hengyang City and nearly 200 primary and secondary schools across the country.
