In the third grade Chinese textbook, there is a text called "Five Heroes of Wolf Tooth Mountain".
When I was studying this text when I was a child, I heard from my teacher that two of the five heroes survived by hanging from a tree on the mountainside after jumping off a cliff.
As for the names of the five heroes, many people know: Ma Baoyu, Hu Delin, Hu Fucai, Song Xueyi and Ge Zhenlin.
Among them, Ma Baoyu is the squad leader and Ge Zhenlin is the deputy squad leader.
According to Xinhua News Agency, the "Five Heroes of Wolf's Tooth Mountain" company of a brigade of the Army's 74th Group Army first starts with the five heroes and then names the current soldiers every time they are named. Every time the names of the five heroes were counted, the officers and men all replied "yes" in unison.
This tradition, from the award of the "Wolf's Tooth Mountain Five Heroes Company", has been like this for decades, forming a glorious tradition, which is the inheritance of the heroic spirit of the ancestors and the glory of every soldier in this company.
The story of the five heroes is well known, and I will not repeat it here. Today we want to talk about the later story of the two surviving heroes of the Five Heroes.
The two heroes who survived because they were hung by the trees on the mountainside were Ge Zhenlin, the deputy squad leader, and Song Xueyi, a warrior.

Song Xueyi joined the anti-Japanese guerrillas on the way to beg for food, it was 1939, and he was already a 21-year-old boy.
His family was a sharecropper, and originally had two acres of thin land. However, because Qinghuang borrowed usurious loans when he did not take over, the donkey rolled and owed 40 silver dollars, and the two acres of land were occupied by the landlord to pay off the debt.
The land on which he depended was gone, his father sold his two sisters, took his brother to the mine, the brother was crushed to death under the mine, and the father soon fell ill and died.
Song Xueyi can only make a living by begging for food, but there are so many poor people, where is it easy to beg for food. Once, he fainted on the road of starvation, was rescued by the anti-Japanese guerrillas, and joined the guerrillas, becoming a soldier of the Eighth Route Army in the Seventh Company of the First Division of the Jin-Cha-Ji Division.
Two years later, the sixth squad of the seventh company and six platoons where he belonged was tasked with blocking the incoming Japanese Kou, and the heroic story of the "Five Heroes of Wolf Tooth Mountain" who cried out in the world occurred.
After Jumping off a cliff, Song Xueyi was hung by the branches of a tree on the mountainside and was seriously injured in the waist.
The next day, they were found and rescued, and they were taken back to the troops and sent to the field hospital for treatment. Yang Chengwu, commander of the sub-district, came, and on behalf of Nie Rongzhen, commander of the military region, hung the five-star medal with his own hands on the chests of Song Xueyi and Ge Zhenlin.
Because song Xueyi was seriously injured in the waist, he could no longer fight on the front line, and could only stay in the army to do what he could. In 1944, he went to work professionally in the local area, serving as the chairman of the Nonghui in Guantou Village, Yi County, Hebei Province, and married Li Guirong, the daughter of a farmer, and started a family.
In 1947, when he learned that his hometown of Qinyang, Henan had been liberated, he took Li Guirong back to his hometown and successively served as an instructor of the militia company, the secretary of the party branch, a member of the commune, a member of the county party committee, and participated in the "National Congress of Militia Heroes.".
Because he left the army, he was not awarded a rank when he was awarded the rank in 1955. Song Xueyi died of illness in 1971 at the age of 53.

Ge Zhenlin joined the army two years earlier than Song Xueyi, and he joined the Eighth Route Army in 1937, just in time for the War of Resistance Against Japan. He was a native of Quyang County, Hebei Province, and he was just 20 years old when he was a soldier.
By the time of the blockade in 1941, he was a veteran, serving as the deputy squad leader of six platoons and six squads. When they lead the enemy to the chessboard, each of them knows in their hearts what it means to take this path.
But they did not hesitate, ge Zhenlin was the second to jump off the cliff after the squad leader Ma Baoyu. When he and Song Xueyi were rescued back to the army, he did not know that he was still alive, and of course did not know that his comrade-in-arms Song Xueyi was rescued with him.
He was seriously injured, and when he woke up, he knew that of the five of them, he and Song Xueyi had a great fate, and they could jump off the cliff and even survive.
He was different from Song Xueyi in that after his wounds were healed, he immediately went to the front line and continued to fight with the enemy.
After the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan, Ge Zhenlin participated in the War of Liberation and went to the north and south with his troops, and made many military achievements. Finally ushered in the birth of a new China.
Originally, he thought that with the founding of New China, he could finally stop fighting and build a new China with peace of mind. However, the Korean War broke out, and the United States gathered 16 vassal states to intervene in the internal affairs of Korea by force, burning the flames of war on our doorsteps and dropping bombs on the northeast land.
As a soldier, Ge Zhenlin could not tolerate the enemy being so rampant, he took the initiative to apply for entry into the Korean War, and then fought a deadly battle with american soldiers armed to the teeth on the Korean battlefield.
After the Korean Armistice, Ge Zhenlin returned to his motherland and served as deputy director of the Logistics Department in the Hunan Provincial Guard Corps, and later served as deputy commander of the Hunan Provincial Public Security Brigade, deputy director of the Hengyang County Military Service Bureau, deputy director of the Hengyang City Armed Forces Department, and deputy director of the Logistics Department of the Hengyang Garrison District.
In 1955, when he was awarded the rank of major, Ge Zhenlin was awarded the rank of major and was awarded the Order of Liberation of the Third Class.
Ge Zhenlin retired in 1981 and enjoyed the treatment of deputy division level, and was promoted to the level of a full division in 1983. Since his retirement, he has been engaged in caring for the next generation. In 1988, he was awarded the title of "Excellent Counselor" by the State Education Commission and the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, and in 1991, he was rated as an advanced individual who cares about the next generation in the country.
On March 21, 2005, Ge Zhenlin completed his heroic and legendary life.

Finally, a few more words, Song Xueyi and Ge Zhenlin, although one transferred to the local area, one continued to stay in the army, but they have always been in contact, but more often through letters to exchange information.
After Ge Zhenlin went to work in Hengyang, Song Xueyi personally sent his two sons to Hengyang to join the army. Such a righteous act is truly admirable.
I once saw a saying: If there are any years that are quiet, it is because someone carries the weight for you. As citizens living in times of peace, we should remember the heroic deeds of our ancestors and let the spirit of heroes be passed on from generation to generation.
However, in our lives, there are always some ungrateful people, who not only do not understand gratitude, but also insult the martyrs, which is really worse than pigs and dogs.
