When the 7th Company completed its retreat, the 6th Squad faced two paths, either to catch up with the large troops, which could fail the 7th Company's retreat plan; and another option, which was to lead to the Extreme Peak Checkerboard, which might put themselves in danger, but would allow the 7th Company to withdraw safely, and they chose the latter.

When Ge Zhenlin and Song Xueyi returned to the army, they were awarded the "National Hero Medal" and continued to participate in the war. Ge Zhenlin successively participated in the War of Liberation, the Suppression of Bandits in Jiangxi, and the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, and his body was injured in many places because of the war, which made him retire early to recuperate.

As the only survivor, Song Xueyi was not in good health and died in 1971. Ge Zhenxue witnessed the 60th anniversary of the victory of the Anti-Japanese War and died of illness in 2005.
