Samsung will release a new self-driving chip next month that will be used by Tesla Cybertruck

South Korean financial media BusinessKorea 21 reported that Samsung Electronics is now making every effort to increase its participation in the semiconductor market for electric vehicles. In the first week of January next year, the next generation of self-driving semiconductors is planned to be released for use by Tesla, a major electric vehicle manufacturer. Industry experts expect Tesla's pickup truck, the Cyberlruck, to use the chip.

Samsung's new all-driving (FSD) chips are now being produced at the Hwaseong plant in South Korea in a 7-nanometer process. BusinessKorea said that since 2019, Tesla has found Samsung to outsource the production of full self-driving chips, which were previously mass-produced at Samsung's Austin plant in Texas, USA.

An industry insider revealed that the new generation of all-driving chips Samsung has been selected to be produced at the Hwaseong factory to ensure high yield and electric vehicle safety.

Some sources in the industry told BusinessKorea that tesla chose Samsung Electronics to provide the next generation of full self-driving chips, in addition to the cost and long-term cooperation between the two sides, Samsung will provide advanced vehicle memory solutions, such as high-performance solid-state drives (SSDs), drawing DRAM, etc., is also an important factor in the line.

According to IHS Markit, the size of the automotive semiconductor market is expected to grow from $45 billion at the beginning of this year to $74 billion by 2026.
