After having children, at least nine of the ten sentences of parents revolve around the nature of children. Recently, I often heard Xiaohui say that there is a classmate in her daughter's class who behaves slightly differently from other children.
This child often can't complete homework independently, doesn't like to communicate with people, likes to walk around the corner, and doesn't say hello when he meets people he knows, but his eyes are staring...
The child's mother is very anxious, watching the child getting bigger and bigger, the situation is getting more and more serious, obviously the academics are gradually unable to keep up, recently under the advice of other parents, found the Hunan Provincial Brain Hospital (Hunan Second People's Hospital) Child and Adolescent Psychology Department Deputy Chief Physician Chen Xi.
After a series of examinations, he was diagnosed with mental retardation.

According to Dr. Chen Xi, mental developmental delay refers to a syndrome in which an individual's intellectual function is significantly lower than that of the same age due to mental retardation, intellectual development disorder or obstruction before the maturity of development (usually before the age of 18), accompanied by difficulties in social adaptation.
The causes of mental retardation can be broadly summarized into two categories:
1) Biomedical reasons, such as various genetic diseases, acquired diseases, injuries, etc.
2) Psychosocial reasons, caused by the social and cultural adverse environment.
So, as parents, how do we make early discovery? What are some of the early manifestations of the disease?
(1) Smiles appear very late, do not pay attention to what others say, accompanied by backward motor development.
(2) Poor development of eye function, because it does not look around, it is often misdiagnosed as blindness.
(3) Due to the lack of response to sound, it is often misdiagnosed as deafness.
(4) Due to late chewing, feeding difficulties, when given solid food, swallowing disorders occur and can cause vomiting.
(5) After the normal child can walk, the two feet will no longer collide with each other when walking, and the two feet of the child with developmental retardation will collide with each other after walking, and some can still be seen by the age of 2 to 3 years old.
(6) The action of playing with the hand persists. Normal children often lie in bed at 3 to 4 months old and look at their hands and play with their hands repeatedly; children with mental retardation persist after 6 months.
(7) Normal children often put things in their mouths when they are 6 to 12 months old, but this is no longer the case when the movements of the hands are more skilled. The movement of the mouth of the underdeveloped child persists, and sometimes the building blocks are put in the mouth until the age of 2 to 3.
(8) Normal children no longer deliberately throw things into the ground at 15 to 16 months, and children with stunting last longer.
(9) Normal children stop drooling at about 1 year old, and defective children last longer.
(10) When awake, children with low intelligence can see teeth grinding, which is not available in normal children.
(11) Children with mental retardation sometimes need repeated or continuous stimulation to cause crying, often laryngeal sounds, sharp crying, or screaming, or high pitched, and sometimes crying weakly. Normal children's cries often have a change in tone.
Dr. Chen Xi pointed out that once mental retardation occurs, it is difficult to reverse, so it should focus on prevention. Monitoring of hereditary diseases, perinatal health care, prevention and early treatment of central nervous system diseases are important measures for prevention. Some developed countries have implemented blood biochemical screening for several genetic metabolic diseases in all newborns under special laws, providing conditions for early prevention and treatment.
