Folk tales: farmers, monks, maidens and emperors

The first emperor of the Southern Song Dynasty was Emperor Gaozong of Song, who was the younger brother of Emperor Zhao Huan of Song and the ninth son of Emperor Huizong of Song, so some people also liked to call him Lao jiu.

Before becoming emperor, Zhao Zhuo was the King of Kang, who went to the Jin Kingdom as a hostage, and later escaped, with the assistance of Li Gang, Zhang Jun, Yue Fei, Han Shizhong, and others, to open up the imperial industry. Soon, Zhao Zhuo was mistaken by Huang Qianshan and Wang Boyan, and the Song army was defeated by the Jin people, and Zhao Zhuo could only flee south on horseback.

In the process of Zhao Shuo's escape to the south, many small people who did not even have a name sacrificed their lives in order to save Zhao Cuo. Some folktales are derived from this.

When Zhao Zhuo fled south, he first passed through Yanguan Prefecture and came to the snake dun (place name) outside the city, and the pursuing soldiers behind him were getting closer and closer. At the critical moment, Zhao Zhuo saw two people in the farmland next to him, and he rushed to ask for help. The elder farmer saw Zhao Shuo's clothes and hats, knew that he was not an ordinary nobleman, and rushed to meet him, let Zhao Shuo get off his horse, changed clothes with his brother, and then the farmer let his brother continue to run south on horseback.

The farmer then put some sludge on Zhao Zhao's clothes, his face and on the cloak, and made him stand in the paddy field with a plough, while he himself stood on the side of the road.

Having just done this, the pursuing soldiers had already arrived, and when they saw the farmer on the side of the road, he asked him if he had seen anyone dressed in yellow and riding a tall horse coming from here. The farmer said: I saw that just now a big official rode a yellow horse and went south, and it was not long before he left. The pursuing soldiers went south to chase the people, and the farmer told Zhao Zhuo to continue to escape from another way.

The farmer's brother was not very good at riding horses, and soon he was chased by the pursuing soldiers. The pursuing soldiers looked at the clothes, hats and horses, but this person was not Zhao Zhao, and in a rage, he killed the farmer's brother. Subsequently, the pursuing soldiers turned around to find the farmer, hacked the farmer to death, and continued to search for Zhao Zhao.

Zhao Zhuo fled to the north of the city, and the pursuing soldiers quickly caught up again. In a hurry, Zhao Zhuo saw an ancient temple with an old monk sitting on the ground chanting. When he went in, he revealed his identity and begged the old monk to protect himself and hide himself. The old monk's robe was very large, so he covered Zhao Zhuo with a hundred robes and told him not to move.

The pursuing soldier watched a person enter the ancient temple, and it was expected that it was Zhao Zhao, but after coming in, he was gone. The pursuing soldier dismounted, and seeing that there was a monk in the temple, he carried a knife and entered the temple, leaving the other soldiers to wait outside.

The old monk, who looked like he was actually a Han Chinese, was furious and scolded him: Do you, a spineless person who surrendered, still want to kill the old lord? Do you still have a little conscience? Even if you capture the old lord, get a reward of thousands of gold, and seal ten thousand households, you will still leave a bandai infamy. Besides, I guess you still have a leader in the Golden Thief, you are definitely not compatible with him, and he must look down on you, so your credit will also be taken by him. What do you want to figure out? The Song Dynasty's qi was not exhausted, so it was better to listen to the old monk's words and retire early.

He bowed to the old monk and said: I am indeed a Han Chinese, because I was taken captive by the Jin people, so I had to surrender. I promised the master to let him go, but I just let him go directly, which could not reassure the Jin people, could not hide their eyes and ears, and I only had one death, so that I could also show my heart.

After speaking, the Han general committed suicide. When the soldiers outside saw that the Lord was dead, they were overwhelmed and frightened and ran away.

After Zhao Shuo came out, the old monk asked him not to live up to the general's wishes, and Because Zhao Shuo did not know the name of the general, he named him the white horse general land god. The old monk also instructed Zhao Shuo to hurry to Lin'an, there was still a difficulty on the way, after this difficulty, he went to throw himself at Zhang Jun, Zhang Jun could defeat the Jin people, and then Zhao Shuo could become emperor again. Zhao Zhuo nodded in thanks, and then went.

Walking to one mountain, another pursuing soldier was about to arrive, and Zhao Zhuo had to hide in the mulberry forest on the side.

In the mulberry forest, there was a girl in a tree, so Zhao Zhao told the girl his identity and asked for help. The girl got out of the tree, took out a large basket, and then let Zhao Zhuo jump in the big basket, and after squatting down, she got a lot of mulberry leaves to cover it. The pursuer had entered the mulberry grove, and after seeing the girl, asked her if she had seen a tall man in shorts and shorts. The girl said: I see, but I have been walking over to that side for half a day. The pursuing soldier believed it to be true and rushed to chase after Zhao Zhao.

The girl took Zhao Zhao back to her home, the family saw that she had taken the man home, they scolded her shamelessly, no face, a girl actually took a strange man home, the family's face was lost.

Zhao Zhao saw that the girl's family was not good, and there was no time to explain, so he rushed to the back of the mountain. It was already dark, and he didn't know where to go, so he leaned against the tree to rest.

Late at night, Zhao Zhuo saw a lamp approaching him not far away, and he was worried that it was a pursuing soldier, so he hid behind a tree. Soon, the man came, and it turned out to be a girl during the day, so he came out to meet him. After the young girl knelt down, she said: This is not a safe place, please follow me quickly, here to the west is Zhang Shuai's tent, where is the safe place."

Therefore, Zhao Zhuo followed the girl to the west, and soon he heard the sound of the drumming in the barracks, at this time, Zhao Zhuo did not dare to go forward. The young girl knelt down again and said: The concubine was originally a sang-picking person, and my parents could not perceive the difficulty of saving His Majesty, and they insulted me bitterly, and I could not prove myself, so I hanged myself and died. However, my heart did not die, so I brought the lamp to Send His Majesty here. If so, the concubine hoped that His Majesty could posthumously seal it.

When Zhao Zhao heard this, he was quite touched and said: If a widow ascends to the throne of the Ninth Five, when you are appointed as the God King of the Mid-Levels, you will always enjoy the sacrifice. When the young girl heard this, she bowed her head in thanks and said: In front of her is Zhang Shuai's big camp, he is a great loyal minister, Your Majesty please quickly join him in the army, concubines can no longer follow His Majesty.

After saying this, the girl was gone, and by this time the sky was already bright.

Zhao conceived of the words of the old monk and the girl, boldly entered the barracks, and was arrested as soon as he entered, he said his identity, the soldiers did not dare to be sloppy, and quickly reported to the commander Zhang Jun. Zhang Jun listened and led all the soldiers to kneel and worship Zhao Zhao. Soon, Zhang Jun had Yue Fei, Han Shizhong, Zhang Jun, and Liu Guangshi invited them to join forces to break the Jin soldiers, and Zhao Zhao declared himself emperor in Wulin (Hangzhou).

After becoming emperor, Zhao Zhuo did not dare to forget the merits of those people who saved him when he fled. So he decreed a reward. The two farmers, named the land god of snake dun, the king of Chongshan Ming, and the old monk were named the great Zen master of the protector of the country, but the old monk did not accept it, while the young girl was named a mountain god and built a temple for it, called "Mid-Levels Niangniang", and the incense is still endless.
