Huang Wei: There are many bad people within the KMT, but there are two people I don't scold

In December 1948, Huang Wei was captured as commander of the 12th Corps of the Nationalist Army, and until he was pardoned by the last batch in December 1975, his life went through a 27-year low.

But even after 27 years of transformation, Huang Wei did not make a big criticism of Chiang Kai-shek. In a conversation, he once said: "There are many bad people within the Kuomintang, but there are two people I do not scold, one is Chiang Kai-shek, and the other is Chen Cheng. ”

"He was my teacher, my principal, my chief for many years, and I had only listened to him. He was a hero, but his set was outdated, so it failed. ”

Huang Wei was born a scholar, not a warrior. After graduating from the normal school with honors in his early years, he returned to his hometown in Jiangxi to become a primary school teacher. Huang Wei could have spent a quiet and elegant life in the academy, perhaps because his student popularity was too heavy, and it did not take long to offend the local squire and had to resign and leave.

At that time, it coincided with the enrollment of the Whampoa Military Academy, and Fang Zhimin, the senior whom Huang Wei respected when he was in the normal school, encouraged him to apply for the examination together, and the 20-year-old Huang Wei threw himself into the pen and joined the Kuomintang when he filled out the form collectively.

During the Huangpu period, Chiang Kai-shek was heroic and vigorous, liked to talk about Confucian ideas such as loyal ministers and good generals, and had both literature and martial arts, and Huang Wei, who had a traditional reading temperament, admired him very much. Huang Wei studied seriously and did things rigorously, performed well during the two crusades, and was repeatedly lectured by Chiang Kai-shek during his school years. In 1927, the Kuomintang and the Communist Party were divided, and Huang Wei, who believed in the "orthodox thinking" of the Three People's Principles, naturally chose to follow Chiang Kai-shek.

In the autumn of 1928, Chiang Kai-shek established the Eleventh Division of the Army, hand-picked Huang Wei as the commander of the division, went to the Army University to study in the same year, and later sent him to Germany for further study, making Huang Wei one of the most orthodox military talents in the ranks of the Nationalist Army.

In 1938, Chiang Kai-shek handed over the Eighteenth Army, one of the five main forces of the Nationalist Army, to Huang Wei, who was 34 years old and became an important figure in the "civil engineering department" headed by Chen Cheng. On the way to Jiangxi, Chiang Kai-shek summoned Huang Wei and gave him a portrait of himself, which read, "General Pei I commemorates it." Huang Wei's character "enlighten me", Chiang Kai-shek did not know whether it was a clerical error or a deliberate change of name, wrote as Pei I. Huang Wei understood that this was Chiang Kai-shek's intention to cultivate him, and from then on he changed the word pei me.

Huang Wei never had much interest in fighting, and was nicknamed "nerd" in the nationalist army.

After experiencing the fierce War of Resistance Against Japan, Huang Wei devoted himself to military education and prepared to establish a new military officer school in Wuhan, where he personally served as the principal.

In the autumn of 1948, Chiang Kai-shek, in order to fight a decisive battle with the People's Liberation Army, established the Twelve Corps and appointed Huang Wei as commander-in-chief, Huang Wei was reluctant in every way, but he could not live up to the grace of Chiang Kai-shek's years of acquaintance, he said, after fighting this battle, he would go back to run my school, Chiang Kai-shek agreed to his request, and he was soon reduced to a prisoner of the ranks.

When Huang Wei talked about this experience in his later years, he said: "He is my teacher, my principal, my governor for many years, and I can only listen to him. ”

In 1975, the last amnesty conference was held at the Fushun War Criminals Management Center, and Huang Wei finally made the list.

Although Huang Wei was very touched by the special preferential treatment in the management office for many years, many of his inner choices were never broken, and he did not say a bad word about Chiang Kai-shek until his death, Huang Wei said: "This person is a hero, but his set is outdated, so it failed." ”

"Chen Cheng is as kind to me as a mountain, without Chen Cheng's reuse, I didn't improve so fast."

Huang Wei was not only valued by Chiang Kai-shek, but also favored by Chiang Kai-shek's "new belly" - Chen Cheng, Huang Wei's "nerdy" was very similar to Chen Cheng, known as "Chen Cheng's shadow" within the Kuomintang, which showed the closeness of the relationship between the two.

Chen Cheng also had the "grace of BoLe" for Huang Wei, when Huang Wei was under Chen Cheng, he basically had to raise one level every year, there were many factions within the Kuomintang, the struggle was continuous, Chen Cheng had tried to protect Huang Wei many times, so that Huang Wei had a place within the Kuomintang, and became a famous figure in the Nationalist army, so Huang Wei became a loyal supporter of Chen Cheng, and he never said a bad word about Chen Cheng.
