Liu Hui the Prince of Zhao Gong was the fifth son of Emperor Liu Bang of Han gao, the half-brother of Emperor Hui Liu Ying and Emperor Wen Liu Heng, and his birth mother is unknown, according to the existing historical data, it should be a concubine or palace maid with a relatively low status in the palace. Although Liu Hui's origins were more embarrassing, Liu Bang was very kind to him, and after Peng Yue, the king of Liang, was killed for "rebellion", he asked Liu Hui to inherit the title in the eleventh year of Emperor Gao (196 BC).

The State of Liang had jurisdiction over the homeland of the State of Wei, which not only had a vast territory (more than 40 cities), a large population, but also an economically rich and strategic location, which was an extremely important vassal state at that time. Since Liu Hui became the King of Liang, he has lived a few years of comfort every day. However, the good times did not last long, and after Liu Bang died and Empress Lü came to power, Liu Hui's situation suddenly became dangerous and eventually died.

Emperor Liu Bang of Han Gao

It turned out that after Empress Lü came to the court, she wantonly persecuted her former love enemy Lady Qi, not only brutally killing her, but also sending people to poison her son Liu Ruyi (King Yin of Zhao). After Liu Ruyi's death, Empress Lü ordered Liu Bang's sixth son Liu You to succeed him as King of Zhao, but 13 years later she starved him to death in the first month of lü's seventh year (181 BC). At this time, Empress Lü already had the idea of killing Emperor Gao for the sake of the safety of her family, so after Liu You's death, she ordered Liu Hui, the King of Liang, to be made the King of Zhao, and ordered him to be sealed immediately in Handan.

Before Liu Hui (in fact, after him), the fate of successive Zhao kings was mostly terrible, either to die (Liu Ruyi, Liu You) or to be deposed (Zhang Ao), and few could die well (Zhang Er), it was as if they were cursed by fate. Because of this, when Liu Hui learned that he was about to be enfeoffed as the King of Zhao, his heart was full of fear and resistance, but he was afraid of Empress Lü's obscenity, but he could only go to the post with a hard scalp.

Liu Ruyi, King of Zhao Yin

Liu Hui was crowned queen of Zhao, because he was worried that he would follow in the "footsteps" of Liu Ruyi and Liu You, so he was frightened every day, and his life was extremely torturous, but fortunately, he had a concubine by his side, and he could still get some relief. However, not long after, in order to monitor Liu Hui's every move, Empress Lü married her niece (Lü Chan's daughter) to him in the name of marriage, depriving Liu Hui of the last shred of happiness.

It turned out that Queen Lü was a jealous and vicious woman, who believed that she had her aunt and grandmother behind her back, and while closely monitoring Liu Hui, she also pointed fingers at the large and small affairs of the feudal country, and did not pay attention to her husband's authority at all. Not only that, in order to be able to specialize in palace affairs, Queen Lü also strictly forbade Liu Hui to visit other concubines, especially to keep a close eye on his concubines, which made Liu Hui miserable.

Gao Hou Lu Pheasant

For The arbitrariness of Queen Lü, Liu Hui was both disgusted and afraid in his heart, so he was sullen and unhappy every day, and could only rely on alcohol to numb himself in order to forget all the troubles in front of him. However, alcoholism cannot really dissolve the troubles, and Liu Hui is a rather fleshy prince, and when he can't bear it, he begins to secretly meet with Aifei behind his back. However, Liu Hui's actions could not conceal Queen Lü, and soon the "eyeliner" told her the news that Liu Hui would privately love concubines, which made the latter furious after hearing the news.

In order to give her husband an unforgettable "lesson" so that he would no longer dare to act behind his back, Queen Lü took advantage of Liu Hui's absence to send someone to poison his concubine with wine ("King Hui of Liang migrated to Zhao, unhappy." The empress dowager made Lü The Daughter of Zhao the Queen of Zhao. The queen obeyed the officials and all the officials, abused power, and served the King of Zhao slightly, and the King of Zhao was not allowed to be self-indulgent. The king loved Ji Ji, and the queen made people kill him. See Historia, Vol. IX).

Queen Lü persecuted Liu Hui in every possible way and poisoned his concubine

After learning the news that Aifei was poisoned, Liu Hui was in pain and eager to tear Queen Lü to pieces at once, but the voice of reason repeatedly warned him that he should never do this for the sake of the fate of the family. Since Liu Hui could not take revenge, he could only appeal to the pen full of mourning and anger, personally composed four elegy for Aifei, and ordered the musicians to recite them repeatedly every day.

Since Aifei was poisoned, Liu Hui has not been able to get out of his sad and indignant mood, and he is in torment all the time. This lasted for 4 months, and Liu Hui, who was desperate for life, finally chose to use martyrdom to end his tragic life, in June of the seventh year of Lü Hou (181 BC) ("Wang Nai is a song and poem in four chapters, so that the musicians sing it."). Wang Grief committed suicide in June. Ibid.), it was only half a year since Liu Hui was created King of Zhao.

Liu Was depressed and depressed, and eventually died of martyrdom

After the news of Liu Hui's martyrdom and suicide reached Chang'an, Empress Lü, instead of feeling sad, used the excuse that he had committed suicide as a woman and did not think about offering sacrifices to the Zongmiao Temple, and resolutely refused to adopt his son for him, and announced the abolition of the Zhao State ("The empress dowager heard about it, thinking that the king used the woman to abandon the Zongmiao ceremony and abolish his heirs.") Ibid.). Because Liu Hui's death was very disgraceful, Empress Lü refused to give him a title, and it was not until After Emperor Wen of Han ascended the throne that she issued an edict posthumously honoring him as King Gong.
