Nowadays, the protective not only stands firmly and plays the role of flood prevention and security, but also has become a good place for the nearby people to relax and exercise because of the blessing of the greenway and the layout of the ecological landscape.
He Guangliang, a villager in Zhangzhen, was a witness to the initiation of governance of Mulan Creek in that year, and also a beneficiary of a happy life after the governance of Mulan Creek. Every evening, he would come to the Mulan Creek Greenway not far from home, gaze at Hushan (referring to "Hugong Mountain"), summon Lan Shui (referring to "Mulan Creek"), stretch his hands and feet, and relax his body. He said that Magnolia Creek used to bring much trauma, but now it is happiness.
The greenway in the Zhangzhen Village section of Licheng District is part of the greenway project on the left bank of Mulan Creek. In 2011, after the flood control embankments on both sides of Mulan Creek were closed and the floods were returned to the trough, Putian City, in accordance with the three-in-one water management concept of "flood prevention and security, ecological governance, and landscape leisure", put some people's livelihood supporting projects along the coast on the important agenda, including centralized treatment of coastal garbage, construction of rainwater pipe network, construction of sewage pipe network, drainage of reservoir ecological flow, introduction into the city, etc., and implemented the Mulan Creek Basin water quality improvement for 100 days to create a river system with smooth rivers, clear water, green shores, and beautiful scenery. Let Mulan Creek become a water of happiness that benefits the whole basin and the people along the coast.
In 2015, the construction of the left bank greenway project of Mulan Creek began, extending from Mulan Pi to Mulan Creek Bridge. The project makes use of the flood control road on the top of the left bank embankment that has been built in the flood control project of the lower reaches of Mulan Creek, transforms it into a colored permeable concrete trail, etc., and makes full use of the limited site of the embankment roof for greening and beautification. Nowadays, the greenway project on the left bank of Mulan Creek has been completed and put into use, the 10-kilometer river embankment is paved with colorful permeable asphalt, and all kinds of flowers and plants along the embankment are competing with each other, which are in harmony with the characteristic flowers and plants on the Mulan Creek River Beach, attracting many citizens to exercise and walk here.
At the same time, at the end of the Mulan Pi greenway project on the left bank of Mulan Creek, Mulan Pi World Heritage Park, a large cultural park with functions such as excursion and leisure, sports expansion, cultural experience, and eco-tourism, is being fully built.
Mulan Pi World Heritage Park takes Mulan Pi water conservancy culture as the background, highlighting the ancient water conservancy projects, canyons and streams, and Lilin water town landscape characteristics. The heritage park is divided into five scenic spots, Qianpi Scenic Area, Xigu Development Area, Water Sports Area, Mulan Pi Scenic Area and Wet Sea Area. Among them, mulan pi scenic spot includes Mulan Pi water conservancy project, water conservancy cultural experience, Song Garden painting area, Mulan Pi cultural display and Mulan Creek plant scenery. At present, the first phase of the core area of the heritage park, including the surrounding environment improvement of Mulan Pi, the greening of the site, the improvement of the landscape, the protection of the monument corridor, etc., has been completed; the second phase mainly builds the Beiqu Water System Connection Project, the Song-style Mulan Pi World Irrigation Project Heritage Park, and also builds a Fujian Provincial Water Conservancy Museum, which is about to start construction.
From water to land, from downstream to upstream, from the main stream to the tributaries, Mulan Creek governance adheres to the combination of safety and ecology, the combination of source control and living water, and the combination of landscape and culture, which has opened a new journey of basin-wide and systematic governance. After nearly 20 years of comprehensive treatment, today's Mulan Creek has a charming style, and in 2018, the water quality of the water function area reached 100%, which was not only rated as the "most beautiful hometown river in the country", but also helped Putian become a pilot city for the construction of water ecological civilization in the country.
