According to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office, a mother from los Gatos, California, Shannon O'Connor, has been charged with multiple crimes on suspicion of hosting secret parties involving alcohol and sex for her 15-year-old son and his friends.
According to foreign media reports, the allegations say O'Connor encourages teenagers to have sex, some of them without consent, and sometimes she watches them have sex.
O'Connor, 47, the mother of a 15-year-old boy at the party, has been secretly hosting parties in her home for the past eight months. Most of the attendees at the party were between the ages of 14 and 15, and she discouraged the teens who attended the party from telling their parents about it and did not allow minors to seek help when they fainted from drunken vomiting.
The Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office said O'Connor not only provided alcohol, such as beer, vodka and fireball whiskey, but also distributed condoms during the party.
At a party for about five 14-year-olds on New Year's Eve last year, defendant O'Connor took a drunken teenager to her bedroom while another drunken 14-year-old girl lay on the bed. She watched the drunken boy rape the young girl. At another party, O'Connor handed an underage girl a condom and pushed her into a room where drunken minors lay.
O'Connor is currently charged with 39 criminal counts, including felonies of child abuse, sexual assault and the provision of alcohol to minors. If she is convicted, she will face imprisonment.
"It takes a lot of brave kids to step forward to unravel this deeply troubling case." As a parent, I was shocked. But as a prosecutor, I am determined to put adults who endanger children under the law," Jeff Rosen, the office's prosecutor, said at a news conference.
As of the morning of Oct. 12, the defendant O'Connor's subpoena hearing had not yet ended, and she now resides in Eagle, Idaho, Idaho, awaiting extradition to California.
