In June 1937, Huang Binhong was invited by the Beiping Antiquities Exhibition Center to go north to review the calligraphy and paintings of the Forbidden City for southern transportation. After Huang Binhong arrived in Beiping, he also served as a lecturer at the Beiping Art College and a tutor in the Chinese Painting Research Office. Two months later, the Lugou Bridge Incident broke out, Pingjin fell, and the whole family could only stay in Beiping.

During this time, Huang Binhong "dumen all day long, only the people in the factory make doors with gold stones, calligraphy and painting, and all of them are accommodated", and has been studying behind closed doors and paintings. In a letter to his students, he said that he had lived in Beijing for ten years. Huang Binhong and Qi Baishi both said that painting is the way of loneliness, but in terms of the past ten years of living, Huang Binhong's loneliness is immersed in the whole life.

Huang Binhong once took out his painting and gave it to the visitor, but the visitor refused, on the grounds that "your painting is black, I can't understand it." Huang Binhong had no choice but to take back the painting he had given away. No one wanted paintings, but the war continued, and Huang Binhong, who was economically embarrassed, later exchanged paintings for rice to survive. Despite his difficult living situation, he insisted on resigning in the face of the Fact that the Beiping Cultural Relics Research Association actively recommended him to the Japanese puppet government as the director of the Beiping Art Museum.

Huang Binhong's personal integrity and quality have led to his lonely life, and the accumulation of this life and culture has also achieved a desolate sense of aesthetic history in his paintings and reached a unique artistic realm.

On March 25, 1955, Huang Binhong died of illness in Hangzhou, and his wife Song Ruonian wanted to donate all the paintings to the state according to his will, but no one wanted them at the time, so he contacted the Zhejiang Museum, which was not active in these things, because a leader who liked art received it by chance. Sadly, after receiving the package, no one handled it, but just set aside. It took many years for Huang Binhong's work to be discovered and recognized. In 2005, Zhejiang Museum held an unprecedented exhibition to commemorate Huang Binhong, and his painting artistic value was more established and recognized by the market.
