During the Republic of China period, Shao Xunmei, who was on a par with Xu Zhimo, was overlooked for her talent because she was rich and handsome

author:Zhang Shengquan's wonderful history

Lu Xun has scolded all kinds of people, among which the one that Lu Xun despises the most is the "soft rice man" Shao Xunmei.

Lu Xun once wrote in "Take Doctrine": "A poor young man among us, because of the yin gong of our ancestors, got a big mansion, and did not ask him whether he was deceived, robbed, or legally inherited, or became a son-in-law in exchange for it..."

In order not to harm the innocent, and in order not to let the reader suffer from random suspicion, Lu Xun deliberately noted at the end of the article: "Here is a satire of Shao Xunmei who has been the son-in-law of a rich man and boasts of himself." ”

During the Republic of China period, Shao Xunmei, who was on a par with Xu Zhimo, was overlooked for her talent because she was rich and handsome

(Shao Xunmei)

Speaking of which, Shao Xunmei and Xu Zhimo were both extremely popular figures in the Republic of China period, and both were praised by the people of the time as "poetry double bi" because of their poetic talent. At the same time, because of their handsome appearance and the similar appearance of the two, they are also called "beautiful men". The writer Zhou Shao once commented on the appearance of Shao Xunmei and Xu Zhimo: "Xunmei seems to be more beautiful than Shima wearing glasses. ”

In terms of origin, Shao Xunmei is not the "poor youth" that Lu Xun said. He was born into a family of official eunuchs, and his grandfather Shao Youlian was a jujutsu before the Tongzhi Dynasty. Because of the yin gong of the ancestors, they were in the official arena. He not only served as a first-class counselor, but also served as the inspector of Hunan and the inspector of Taiwan.

His maternal grandfather was even more powerful, and in the late Qing Dynasty, he was not only Li Hongzhang's right-hand man, but also the main founder of the Western affairs movement. He founded railways, textiles, telegraphs, steamships, coal mines, banks and other industries, and was an industrialist who was rich and invincible at that time. In addition, Shao Xunmei's great uncle Shao Yi married Li Hongzhang's niece Li Shi, and Shao Yi died young and failed to leave an heir. So Shao Xunmei was passed on to Uncle Da. In this way, Li Hongzhang is also his maternal grandfather.

It is rumored that Sheng Xuanhuai's most beloved daughter is Sheng Aiyi. In fact, the fourth daughter, Sheng Xihui, was his most beloved daughter. Sheng Xihui's marriage was arranged by Sheng Xuanhuai, and her husband was Shao Heng, the son of Shao Youlian.

Because of her love for Sheng Xihui, when she got married, Sheng Xuanhuai prepared an extremely rich dowry for her. It is said that there are 1 million silver dollars alone, and antiques, jewelry and makeup are even more impressive. Therefore, the marriage of the Sheng family caused a great sensation at that time.

(Sheng Xuanhuai)

As the old saying goes, a son-in-law is half a child. After Shao Heng got married, he was also deeply promoted by Sheng Xuanhuai and became the superintendent of the Steamship Merchants Bureau. It's a fat shortage. Unfortunately, Shao Heng was a stupid boy who only cared about eating opium, gambling and playing with women, so the old man arranged a good errand for him, and he actually did not go to work for several months. Sheng Xuanhuai was so angry that he had to be dismissed.

Although her father was not a tool, Shao Xunmei was born like a jade person from an early age. Coupled with the family's excellent wealth, the utilitarian spirit of reading has weakened a lot. For example, most of the things learned in the family school are the "Book of Poetry" and the Tang poetry and Song Ci, rather than the boring "Four Books" and "Five Classics", and there is no need to search the intestines and scrape the stomach to learn what eight strands of text. Under the influence of poetry, Shao Xunmei's nobleman temperament has become more and more intense. After that, Shao Xunmei was sent to the aristocratic school St. John's School to study and receive a Western-style education.

It should be known that many celebrities have graduated from St. John's School, such as Zhang Ailing, Gu Weijun, Song Ziwen, etc. are all alumni of Shao Xunmei. I think that Shao Xunmei's books in those years were naturally very rewarding.

Shao Xunmei is a precocious teenager who had a crush on his cousin Sheng Peiyu, who was 1 year older than himself, at the age of 10.

It was 1916, when Grandpa Sheng Xuan died of illness. When Shao Xunmei accompanied her mother Sheng Xihui to send Sheng Xuanhuai's coffin back to her hometown in Suzhou, she was able to see Sheng Peiyu for the first time. He fell in love at first sight and has been suffering from lovesickness ever since.

After separation, Shao Xunmei not only learned to drive, but also learned to go in and out of the Wind Moon Place.

However, Shao Xunmei was still a small fresh meat that was not deeply involved in the world after all, and he soon suffered a loss.

It turned out that Shao Xunmei had met a beautiful courtesan in the theater, so she very attentively invited the courtesan flower to dinner with her friends. Who knew that on the way to dinner, among the friends of the social flower, there was a person surnamed Shao who injured a person for no reason and slipped away. The police who arrived later, without understanding the situation, mistakenly thought that Shao Xunmei had injured someone, so they put him in prison.

Later, the truth finally came out, and Shao Xunmei was also released. However, the social flower found the Shao family and blackmailed a large amount of money, and the matter was settled.

(Sheng Peiyu)

Although the storm has passed, the news that the Shao family's son hurt people has become a talking point in the streets and alleys, and the Shao family has lost some face because of this.

Shao Xunmei later learned from a friend that the reason why he had a prison sentence was originally a game given to him by the social flower. He was only young and ignorant and misbehaving, so he suffered a big loss.

Since then, Shao Xunmei has regarded the Place of wind and moon as the land of tigers and wolves, and no longer wants to set foot in it, but instead reads with peace of mind. And his cousin Sheng Peiyu made his red roses during the day and the white moonlight at night.

In order to express his love to Sheng Peiyu, he also looked for the sentence "Pei Yu Zhen Zhen, Xun Mei and Du" in the Book of Poetry, and changed his name to "Shao Xun Mei". In addition, love also gave birth to Shao Xunmei's poetic feelings, allowing him to write a lot of love poems during that time.

Shao Xunmei's love for Sheng Peiyu is actually already public. His mother, Sheng Xihui, spoiled him, and besides, the Sheng family and the Shao family were originally in-laws. Therefore, under the mother's Zhang Luo, Shao Xunmei and Sheng Peiyu became engaged.

Before the engagement, Mrs. Zhuang had asked Sheng Peiyu what she thought. Sheng Peiyu thought that it was the custom for men in the Sheng family to take concubines, and they all smoked and gambled indiscriminately, so she put forward three conditions: one is not to eat opium smoke, the second is not to gamble, and the third is not to take concubines.

For sheng peiyu's conditions, Shao Xunmei believes that they are extremely simple things that can be done. So he immediately agreed, so a marriage was finalized.

During her study in the UK, Shao Xunmei became acquainted with Xu Beihong, Zhang Daofan and others, but his acquaintance with Xu Zhimo was the most interesting.

It turned out that when Xu Beihong first met Shao Xunmei, he said that he looked quite similar to Xu Zhimo. Later, even the old man who sold old books on the streets of Cambridge always asked him if his surname was Xu. After figuring it out, he lamented that he actually looked exactly like Xu Zhimo.

Interestingly, within a few days, Shao Xunmei met Xu Zhimo on the street, and Xu Zhimo went straight to him and shouted, "Brother, I finally found you." ”

It turned out that someone had said the same thing as Xu Zhimo, which aroused Xu Zhimo's curiosity. So he inquired around and finally found Shao Xunmei.

(Xu Zhimo and Shao Xunmei)

In 1927, due to family changes, at the urging of her mother, Shao Xunmei, who had not completed her studies, returned to China and married Sheng Peiyu.

When Sheng Peiyu got married, although the Sheng family was not as beautiful as before, the dowry she brought to the Shao family was still very rich. Not only was there a dowry of 10,000 silver dollars, but there were also fields and shops. This dowry naturally carried a great weight among the rich ladies of old Shanghai. So the news that Shao Xunmei had married Miss Kuo was also known to all the neighbors.

Since then, Shao Xunmei has served as the secretary general of the municipal government in Nanjing. However, the darkness and corruption of the officialdom made him angry and resigned after 3 months, and vowed never to be an official again.

If you don't become an official, you will do learning. Originally, Shao Xunmei was a literati, writing poetry, reading books, and making articles, all of which made him happy and at ease.

Shao Xunmei likes to write poetry, and the old style poetry is well done. For writing new poems, he himself once said that he had not been inspired by others. And he had a good relationship in the literary world, and everyone elected him and Xu Zhimo as representatives of the crescent poets.

For Shao Xunmei's poems, his friends were very enthusiastic. For example, Chai Shuduo commented: "Sound, color, affection, and power." Shen Congwen also commented: "Written with the feelings of a capable ode, he wrote a collection of poems." Praise life, praise love, but show the pleasures of aesthetic life, the exaggerated craving for this world, and still see emptiness in this world. Yu Dafu's evaluation was the most unconcerned, he said: "Shao Xunmei is a very good poet..."

In short, because Shao Xunmei often does dong, everyone eats a lot of his good meals happily, and it seems that there are few people who do not praise his poetry.

During the Republic of China period, Shao Xunmei, who was on a par with Xu Zhimo, was overlooked for her talent because she was rich and handsome

(Lu Xun)

Shao Xunmei also had the reputation of "Meng Yujun" in the literary circles at that time. He is generous and charitable, but whenever a friend has difficulties, he will give it away. He was also extremely poor at financial management and spent so much money that he made friends with many literati. His family was often full of friends, and people like Yu Dafu, Lin Yutang, Hu Shi and others were regular customers in his home. Yu Dafu also said that his family was "always full of customers, and the bottle of wine is not empty."

Although there are many people who are good friends with Shao Xunmei, there are also many people who look down on him and only indulge in pleasure and sing the wind and the moon.

Like Lu Xun, a representative figure of the left, he was very dissatisfied with Shao Xunmei's behavior, and at the same time, he also looked down on his articles. Therefore, Lu Xun sneered several times: "Shao Gongzi has a rich Yue family, has a wife, and uses dowry money to do literary capital." ”

In fact, carefully investigated, although Sheng Peiyu did have a thick dowry, Shao Xunmei's family was still very solid. Not only are there tens of thousands of acres of rural real estate, but there are also many shops and real estate for rent, so he has not fallen to the point where he can only live by eating soft rice.

However, because Shao Xunmei's article was very out of Lu Xun's eyes. Therefore, when Lu Xun talks about him, he must start with his marriage to Mrs. Kuo, and then say that his "literary artist" was donated. The implication is that his literary capital is by no means earned by talent.

For Lu Xun's ridicule, Shao Xunmei also wrote an article to fight back. However, he scolded Lu Xun, where can there be Lu Xun's kind of lethality! Therefore, after several times, Shao Xunmei was also sad, so he would say in "Persuading Mr. Lu Xun": "Mr. Lu Xun always scolded me for being 'rich'... But in any case, how much does it have to do with my article? ”

Even after liberation, when Shao Xunmei was imprisoned in Tilanqiao Prison because of political problems, he also asked his fellow inmates to say that Mr. Lu Xun had heard rumors and said that he had money, and that none of his articles were written by him, but that he had paid for them to be written, and that although his articles were not well written, he had not asked anyone to write them, they were all written by himself.

Look at a poet who could have been on par with Xu Zhimo. Because he married Mrs. Kuo, it led to many rumors. In addition, the influential Lu Xun labeled him again, so his literary talent was like a dim star, drowned in the vast sea of literature, and he gradually became unknown.
