Turning over the thick history of the CPC over the past century, from the great victory of the revolution to the great rejuvenation of the nation, the revolutionary cultural relics that have endured vicissitudes one after another have recorded a series of red stories that have reached the hearts of the people and the historical moments that have carried forward the past one after another, which is the best witness of the CPC cutting through thorns and forging ahead.
On the occasion of the centenary of the founding of the Party, the Central Radio and Television Corporation, the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, and the Central Cyberspace Administration jointly launched the "Red Seal - Sound Archive of 100 Revolutionary Cultural Relics", which was officially launched on March 22 at the Central Radio and Television Station, and was simultaneously launched on new media platforms such as CCTV News, CCTV News, and Yunting. 100 narrators, using the "most beautiful voice" to burn a century of memories.
Burning a century-old memory with my voice, I am the narrator of revolutionary cultural relics and voice actor Baomu Zhongyang. The artifact I am talking about is the song score of the National Southwest United University.
This sheet of music in the Yunnan Provincial Archives was made in December 1937. A replica of it is now on display in the Museum of the Southwest United University. The original score is nearly one page A4 paper size, marked by a short score, although the paper surface is slightly yellow, but the lyrics are clear and the handwriting is handsome.

In the eight years, teachers and students worked hard to run schools and go to the country to create "a masterpiece of the wartime higher education system." "Thousands of autumns of shame, the final snow; Zhongxingye, must be a master...", this school song that boosts the morale and fighting spirit of the Chinese nation, inspires the students to make unremitting efforts and dedicate themselves to serving the country in a difficult environment.

After the outbreak of the All-out War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression in July 1937, Peking University, Tsinghua University and Nankai University moved south one after another, and the three schools formed changsha temporary university under the Yuelu Mountains. As the war approached, the temporary university was relocated to Yunnan in February 1938 and renamed the National Southwest United University. Two months after the start of the course, the then Ministry of Education required schools across the country to compile school songs and school mottos, and the Southwest United University also established the "School Motto Committee for Compiling School Songs and School Mottos".
Wu Baozhang, president of the Yunnan Society for the Study of Modern Chinese History, introduced: "This compilation committee is chaired by Feng Youlan, dean of the Faculty of Letters, and its members include Zhu Ziqing, Wen Yiduo, and Luo Yong, all of whom are very famous professors at southwest United University. They began a wide call for papers, and professors throughout Southwest United University, including students, could submit papers. ”

After the solicitation, in only one month, the school announced the four words of "Fortitude and Perseverance" as the school motto, but the creation of the school song has undergone several twists and turns. Among the many submissions, the lyrics written by Luo Yong, a professor at the Department of Chinese, and filled in according to the Manjiang Red Word Card, stood out.

The Long March of Ten Thousand Miles, the Resignation of the Five Dynasties Palace Que. Stop for a while, Hengshan Xiangshui, and become parting. The dried zhen was transplanted, and the blood of Li Yuan was sprinkled all over Kyushu. Blow as much as you can, the strings are recited in the mountain city, and the love is michi!
Thousands of autumns and shames, eventually snow; Zhongxingye, must be a master. It is one into three households, and it is difficult to break. How difficult it is to worry about the new national fortunes, and to endure the former philosophy. To be expelled from Qiu Kou, fu Shen Jing, and return Yan Jie.
During this period, Mr. Feng Youlan, as the chairman of the committee, also wrote a modern poetic lyrics "Xishan Cangcang":
The western mountains are pale and the Yunnan waters are vast. This is no longer the Bohai Sea, this is no longer Hengyue Xiaoxiang. Students, don't forget your lost hometown, don't live up to the great times, and don't delay the precious light. Hurry up to study, hurry to prepare, and we must bear the responsibility of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the founding of the country. Students, we must make use of the precious light, create a great era, and recover our lost hometown.
So, the school song committee began to "compose" the lyrics for these two songs. At that time, Mr. Zhu Ziqing remembered Professor Zhang Qingchang, who was teaching at The National Zhejiang University, and sent the lyrics of "Man Jiang Hong" written by Luo Yong and "Xishan Cangcang" written by Feng Youlan. Zhang Qingchang took into account the actual situation of the Southwest United Congress and chose the former.
Wu Baozhang said: "Zhu Ziqing has great confidence in him and sends him this lyrics and lets him compose the music. After Zhang Qingchang matched this piece, after singing, it was indeed satisfactory. Thus the school song was born. ”

At that time, the southwest United University, the classroom was planned and designed by Liang Sicheng and Lin Huiyin in 1939. Due to tight funds and poor conditions, it is impossible to keep warm in winter and cool in summer. Students are not afraid of hot and cold, but the most feared is rainy days.

Just like a clip from the movie "No Questions Asked", in thatched huts, dedicated students take notes while listening to lectures. The rain outside the window was getting heavier and heavier, the raindrops hit the top of the tin, and the lecture was not clear, so the professor wrote the words "sit still and listen to the rain" on the blackboard.
Yang Peixuan, an alumnus of Southwest United University, recalled: "The classroom was covered with tin, and it rained and dripped, and life was very bitter at that time. ”
In such a difficult environment, as the largest comprehensive university in China at that time, Southwest United University aimed to expose students to the broadest possible world of knowledge, and had 5 colleges and 26 departments of literature, law and commerce, and science. In eight years, more than 8,000 students have been trained.

In the smoke of the War of Resistance Against Japan, the masters and students of the Southwest United University stuck to the campus, shouldered the responsibility of protecting the national context, and realized the ideal of serving the country with science and technology. Among them, there are two Nobel laureates, five winners of the country's highest science and technology award, more than 170 academicians and more than 100 humanities masters. Chen Yinke, Feng Youlan, Wen Yiduo, Hua Luogeng... These masters have all worked or studied at Southwest United University. To this day, "brilliant stars" and "gathering of masters" are still the most commonly used words to describe Southwest United University.

On April 18, 2021, Xu Yuanchong, a translator who was the first student of Southwest United University, celebrated his 100th birthday. On weekdays, he still works hard at his desk, borrowing words to integrate Chinese and Western. When talking about the study time of Southwest United University, he often hummed a few school songs: "Thousand autumn shame, the end of the snow; Zhongxingye, Must be a master." It is one into three households, and it is difficult to break. He said: "Even if it is one out of three households, the ambition is still there." Even if there are three of us left, I will fight Japan. This is unbelievable, this ambition is great. ”

"Political feelings, social commitment, academic ambitions, and lofty ambitions", the spirit of the United Nations General Assembly is embodied in the school motto of "Fortitude and Perseverance", and also in the melody of the school song "Thousand Autumn Shame, Final Snow; Zhongxingye, Xu Renjie". Li Hongying, director of the Museum of Southwest United University, believes that this spirit and feelings through time and space will always inspire future generations.
