Feng Youlan (1895.12.04~1990.11.26), also known as Zhisheng, was a native of Qiyi Town, Tanghe County, Nanyang City, Henan Province. A famous contemporary Chinese philosopher and educator.

In 1918, he graduated from the Department of Philosophy of Peking University. In 1924, he received a doctorate in philosophy from Columbia University. After returning to China, he successively served as a professor, director of the Department of Philosophy, dean of the Faculty of Letters, professor of Southwest Union University, dean of the Faculty of Letters, deputy to the Fourth National People's Congress, member of the Second to Fourth CPPCC Committee, member of the Standing Committee of the Sixth to Seventh National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and honorary doctorate of literature from Princeton University, Delhi University in India, and Columbia University in the United States. He is the author of "History of Chinese Philosophy", "A Brief History of Chinese Philosophy", "New Edition of the History of Chinese Philosophy", "Six Books of Zhenyuan", etc., which have become important classics of Chinese scholarship in the 20th century, and have a profound impact on Chinese modern and contemporary academic circles and even foreign academic circles, and are known as "modern neo-Confucians".

At 20:45 on November 26, 1990, he died at the age of 95 in Beijing Friendship Hospital.

In 1921, he published articles such as "Bergson's Philosophical Method" and "Conversation with Tagore in India (Comparison of Eastern and Western Civilizations)" in the magazine "New Wave".

In 1923, he published articles such as "Commenting on Bergson's" ("New Wave", Vol. 3, No. 2), "Why China Does Not Have Science--- An Interpretation of the History of Chinese Philosophy and Its Consequences" (International Journal of Ethics, Vol. 32, No. 3), "On "Comparing Chinese and Western Cultures and Ethnology" (Xueyi, Vol. 3, No. 10), and "Liang Shuming's" (Columbia University Philosophy Journal, No. 19).

In the summer of 1923, Feng Youlan successfully passed the doctoral defense of Columbia University in the United States with "Comparative Study of Life Ideals" (also known as "The Theory of Profit and Loss of Heaven and Man") and obtained a doctorate in philosophy. After returning to China in the autumn of that year, he wrote "A View of Life" in the direction of his doctoral dissertation.

In 1924, he wrote "Philosophy of Life" as a high school textbook, in which Feng Youlan established his philosophical belief in new realism and began to combine new realism with Cheng Zhu Lixue.

In 1931 and 1934, he completed the first and second volumes of the History of Chinese Philosophy, and later used it as a university textbook, making significant contributions to the discipline construction of the history of Chinese philosophy.

In 1937, he published articles such as "Philosophy and Logic" and "On the Philosophy of Nations".

From 1939 to 1946, Feng Youlan published six consecutive books, called "Books Written by Zhen Yuan": "New Science" (1937), "New Shixun" (1940), "New Theory of Events" (1940), "New Original People" (1942), "New Original Road" (1945), "New Zhiyan" (1946). Through the "Six Books of Zhenyuan", Feng Youlan founded the new theoretical system of thought, making him the most influential philosopher in China at that time [8].

The 1950s and 1960s were a period of transition in Feng Youlan's academic thought [8]. After the founding of New China, Feng Youlan abandoned his new theoretical system, accepted Marxism, and began to study the history of Chinese philosophy under the guidance of Marxism. He is the author of the first and second volumes of the New Compilation of the History of Chinese Philosophy, the Collected Papers on the History of Chinese Philosophy, the Second Collection of Papers on the History of Chinese Philosophy, the First Draft of the Historiography of Chinese Philosophy, the Review of forty Years, and the seven-volume New Compilation of the History of Chinese Philosophy.

He firmly believed that the Chinese nation, which has a profound foundation of five thousand years of civilization, will never perish, that the difficulties will only be temporary, that it will soon pass, and that the day of victory in the War of Resistance Against Japan will be the time when the Chinese nation and its culture will be revived! It is with this firm belief that Feng Shi studied more diligently, immersed himself in writing, and immersed himself in sorting out traditional Chinese culture. From 1939 to 1946, the "Six Books of Zhenyuan" were published to form a complete system of philosophical thought of "New Science". Regarding the profound meaning of Feng Youlan's writing of these six books, he once clearly stated in the preface to the "New Original People": "'Establish a heart for heaven and earth, establish a destiny for the people, continue to learn from the saints, and open up peace for all the worlds', this philosopher should also expect himself." In the case of the mainland family and the nation, the society of the Zhenyuan, when the friendship of the endless, the time of the heavens and the people, the changes of the ancient and modern, the way of the king of the Inner and Inner Saints, can not do what they want to say, thinking that the mainland family will bring peace, and I will be used to settle down and establish my life? Although it cannot be reached, the heart yearns for it. If you can't do it, you're willing to learn. This "New Theory", "New Matter", "New World Training", and the author of this book. This fully demonstrates Feng's grand ambitions and deep aspirations.
