+++ 我收到的offer们

Because my undergraduate GPA is not very satisfactory (less than 3.0), there are also times when there is a lot of self-doubt and internal friction in the preparation process. Fortunately, the teachers at DSC are very professional, patient and positive, and continue to give me confidence. The last effort was also a very satisfying result for the individual! I hope this sharing can bring some encouragement to students who are applying and preparing to apply.

+01. Why did I choose to continue my studies in architecture after graduating from my bachelor's degree?

In fact, the first three years of undergraduate architecture were spent in self-doubt and peer pressure. Personally, I am a person who feels slower than others in learning anything, and after the negative evaluation given by the teacher during the evaluation, I doubt myself even more, and I don't know my interests and the direction I want to study. In the first semester of my senior year, I did an urban market design, and the epidemic during my college years made me suddenly think about the psychological and sensory changes that architectural space can give people from a psychological perspective (mental & physicla well-being).

+++大四上学期做的urban market的设计

I had the privilege of listening to Tye Farrow's lecture while in college, and I was inspired by his concept of "Architecture causing Health", which was used as a starting point to expand the theme of my portfolio.

+02. Prepare and plan your journey for graduate applications

I learned about DSC design cans in Xiaohongshu a year in advance, and I also learned about the application for graduate students in architecture and the prospects of the construction industry with Mr. Du. Based on my personal situation, Mr. Du also provided advice for me to try my best to improve my GPA in my senior year to increase the possibility of admission, and also provided me to work more on my portfolio and essays to improve my competitiveness. In the process of talking with Mr. Du and looking at the students who have successfully studied in the past, I found that DSC Design Cans has a lot of experience in applying for graduate school of architecture in Canada, and the tutors of the portfolio are also well-known graduates from well-known architecture schools in Canada. Through the dialogue with Mr. Du, Mr. Du provided a clear direction of effort, and it is not a pie-style communication, or blind PUA and suppression.

+03. The process of preparing a portfolio

Probably different from most of my classmates, I chose to devote myself to the preparation of my portfolio and essays in the summer after graduating from my undergraduate program. The whole process lasts about 6 months and consists of 5 projects, a mix of competitions and improvements to previous academic projects. My portfolio advisors were Heloise and Peiyun, and at the beginning we met online, looked through my previous assignments and assessments, and drew up a detailed outline and theme of my portfolio. At the suggestion of the teacher, the five projects are buildings of different volumes and landscaping, and the urban setting of Toronto is used to consider how the building can bring mental & physical well-being to users.

+++ 作品:Reimagine the Grange Park

Above, a Landscaping Project, rethinking and designing Grange Park to decompress the surrounding residents and users. The design ranges from reflecting on the current shortcomings of the park, how to adjust the circulation and planning of modular places, to meet the needs of social activities and entertainment. Each module is designed from small to large scenes, from the combination of tall and short stones and plants, to the display of the whole scene. At the same time, taking into account that different users may have different definitions of relaxation, the module is also divided into different relaxation methods that are relatively quiet and relatively noisy. This is my first attempt at a large-scale landscape project, and I am very confused and a little confused after doing the site analysis. Mr. Heloise showed me a lot of different landscape design projects and analyzed each design logic in great detail.

+++ Stackt Integeneration Housing

Stackt Integeneration Housing is a housing project aimed at older and younger users. Through design, it provides opportunities to build connections between residents, thereby improving the overall quality of life and fostering a sense of belonging within the community. Focusing on and enhancing the mental health of residents, visual communication is achieved through different indoor and outdoor activity spaces, as well as visual dislocation between floors. As well as the shared balcony realizes and increases the communication between the upper and lower floor users and the understanding and care between neighbors. This is a redesign project from the Academic Project, in the early design process, Mr. Peiyun provided how to better show the concept from the design, and let a lot of my small ideas summarize and summarize, so that the design itself has a whole.

+04. The process of preparing the paperwork

Writing sample I chose one of my academic writing in my fourth year as a basic template and sent it to Lőrinc for subsequent revision. In the case of Personal Statement, I drew up an outline with Mr. Heloise and Mr. Peiyun from the perspective of the portfolio, and then refined it to the first draft, and then taught Mr. Lőrinc to make targeted revisions. Mr. Lőrinc is very professional and very patient to review and correct back and forth, and the summary from this essay preparation process is that the essay must have a very specific direction and the wording needs to be accurate, and the arguments in the essay should be clear. A personal statement needs to talk about how the direction you are interested in is implemented in reality, how it makes you interested and how it relates to the institution you are applying to. Essays have a limited number of words, so every word is important, and be sure to avoid vague words to clearly convey the message you want to convey.
