Commenting on the decision to posthumously award Lin Huiyin's degree, Fritz Steiner, director of the Weitzmann School of Design, said in an interview last year: "We are correcting the mistakes of history. He once said: "The reason why Lin Huiyin was not awarded a degree is very clear, that is, her female identity. ”
In 1927, Lin Huiyin graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in fine arts.
In 1924, Lin Huiyin and Liang Sicheng were admitted to the University of Pennsylvania. Although both wanted to go to architecture school at the time, the former was rejected because of being a woman. So she retreated to the Penn School of Fine Arts, where she received a B.A. in fine arts in 1927.

However, with his high level of enthusiasm, Lin Huiyin completed most of the courses required for a bachelor's degree in architecture while enrolling in the Bachelor of Fine Arts program. Not only did she take many architecture courses, but she also served as a teaching assistant for architectural design courses, and her grades far exceeded those of men of her age.
In order to commemorate the first female architect in modern China, a few days ago, the theme exhibition of "Thousand-petal Flowers - Lin Huiyin, the Guardian of Cultural Heritage in Fuzhou Ancient House" was also launched in Philadelphia, USA.
As an architect and one of the designers of the national emblem of the new China, Lin Huiyin walked out of Fuzhou, Fujian Province, and went to Europe and the United States to study architectural theory.
This exhibition exhibits a large number of precious documents and related objects of Lin Huiyin, focusing on Lin Huiyin's fruitful achievements in the fields of ancient architectural research and rescue of "national treasure" cloisonné, presenting his talented and poetic humanistic feelings and academic spirit of running for the rise and fall of the country.
This year marks the 120th anniversary of Lin's birth and the 100th anniversary of her admission to Penn. According to reports, on the afternoon of May 19, local time, the Weitzman School of Design will also hold the "Centennial of Lin Huiyin's Admission to Penn and Posthumous Architecture Degree Celebration" at the Penn Fisher Art Library, where a number of well-known scholars in the field of architecture at home and abroad will speak at the event to pay tribute to Lin Huiyin's extraordinary achievements and global influence.
