May 5 is World Pulmonary Hypertension Day, and the theme of this year's World Pulmonary Hypertension Day is "Pulmonary Hypertension Without Borders, Working Together to Cure Pulmonary Hypertension". In order to improve the public's awareness of pulmonary hypertension and care for the majority of patients, the pulmonary hypertension clinic led by the Department of Cardiology and the multidisciplinary team of pulmonary hypertension held pulmonary hypertension days in the outpatient clinic of the hospital, providing patients with free blood pressure, blood oxygen, heart rate measurement, 6-minute walking distance, cardiac ultrasound data review, health knowledge education lectures and other series of activities.
It is reported that since 2012, the hospital will join hands with patients every year to organize free clinic activities around the World Pulmonary Hypertension Day on May 5, looking forward to the professional diagnosis and treatment of multidisciplinary collaboration at the same time, so that patients can scientifically understand pulmonary hypertension, through regular follow-up and re-examination of drug treatment and other treatment methods, work together to achieve the standard treatment of pulmonary hypertension, and finally achieve a good period of cure
Pulmonary hypertension, a rare but serious cardiovascular disease, is the "cancer of cardiovascular disease". It can lead to heart enlargement, heart failure, and seriously affect the quality of life and life safety of patients. Due to the complexity of pulmonary hypertension, many patients often struggle to receive timely diagnosis and treatment at an early stage. In 2022, Xiangya Hospital of Central South University set up a pulmonary hypertension clinic and a multidisciplinary team led by the Department of Cardiology, bringing together top medical teams: experts in cardiology, rheumatology, cardiac surgery, hematology, respiratory, emergency medicine, general medicine, imaging and other fields.
In the morning, the members of Xiangya MDT team: Chief Physician Chen Fan, Deputy Chief Physician Liu Qiong, Deputy Chief Physician Zhou Yaou, Attending Physician Zha Lihuang, and Attending Physician Liu Xiangwei provided free professional consultation, detailed disease assessment and targeted treatment suggestions for about 40 patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension in the outpatient hall. Chief Physician Chen Fan, Deputy Chief Physician Zhou Yaou, and Deputy Chief Physician Liu Qiong gave professional lectures on the problems and troubles encountered by patients in diagnosis, treatment, medical treatment, follow-up, daily care, and precautions. In the afternoon, after the patient completed the 6-minute walking distance and cardiac ultrasound data review, Liu Qiong, deputy chief physician of the Department of Cardiology, and Zhou Yaoou, deputy chief physician of the Department of Rheumatology, also provided free registration and diagnosis services for the comparison of the patient's examination with the previous data.
This free clinic activity is not only a gathering of medical resources, but also a transmission of love. We hope that through practical actions, patients can feel the warmth and care of the society, and encourage them to actively face diseases and bravely pursue a healthy life. At the same time, we also call on the whole society to pay attention to the plight of pulmonary hypertension patients and work together to improve the awareness and treatment of the disease. It is hoped that more social forces will join in to jointly improve the scientific understanding of pulmonary hypertension in the whole society, promote the deepening of standardized diagnosis and treatment concepts such as combined therapy, early attainment, long-term management, and regular follow-up, and improve the long-term survival rate and quality of life of patients with pulmonary hypertension.
