Malaysia officially announced that the paper-based IELTS test format will be cancelled from March 1, 2024, and only the computer-based test format will be retained.
Compared with the paper-based test, the computer-based test has more test centers, more time to choose from, and the results are faster. IELTS officials are also pushing the computer-based test format.
However, most students are accustomed to paper and pencil, and it is difficult to adapt to the sudden use of keyboard and mouse to answer in the examination room, resulting in low efficiency and low word accuracy.
In order to let you understand the process of the computer-based test in advance, I have prepared a computer-based test process strategy for you, and students who plan to take the computer-based test must read it carefully!
Prepare for the exam
1. ID card or passport, a valid document that is exactly the same as that at the time of registration.
2. Admission ticket: Log in to the personal homepage of the IELTS registration website 2 days before the computer-based written test date to print the admission ticket.
3. On the day of the test, you need to arrive at the test room 45 minutes in advance, plan the travel mode and time in advance, and do not be late, otherwise you will not be able to take any test subjects, and you will not be able to transfer, cancel or refund the test, and the results of the completed subjects will be cancelled!
PS: The examination room will provide a pencil, a pair of earplugs, and an account password paper (listening, speaking, reading, and writing must be logged in separately), a scratch paper, a call headset, and a pager (speaking) before the start of each subject. Therefore, candidates do not need to prepare for the above things, they only need to bring valid documents and admission tickets.
Pre-test registration
1. Close the electronic products, store the bag, and submit the ID card to the registration table.
2. Staff inquiries (all in English)

4. Wait for the exam and adjust the seat, adjust the height of the computer screen, and adapt to the keyboard. (The keyboard of the IELTS computer-based test is an old-fashioned keyboard, not a laptop~)
Speaking (15mins)
1. Examination supplies:

2. Examination process:
(1) Enter the examination room under the guidance of the staff
(2) The staff tests the microphone → connects it to the examiner→ informs the examiner of your name and test number→ and hands over the headset to you
(3) The exam begins
(4) Don't get up immediately after the test, press the pager, and wait for the staff to pick you up from the test room
3. Precautions for the exam

(2) Do not press the pager if nothing happens!
Listening (30+2mins)
1. Examination supplies:
(1) Prepare by yourself:

(2) The examination room provides:
A piece of paper for your account password (equivalent to scratch paper), a pencil, and a headset
2. Examination process:
(1) Log in to the system with the information on the account password paper, and remember to verify the personal information after logging in. After entering all the passwords in the entire examination room, the test will be taken together.
After logging in, listen to the teacher's instructions to wear headphones, check whether there is a problem with your headphones, and adjust the volume (the volume bar in the upper right corner can be directly pulled to the maximum).
(2) Click on the sign to start the test according to the teacher's instructions.
3. Precautions for the exam
(1) There are 40 questions in the computer-based listening test, and the time is about 30mins, and there is only 2mins to check after the listening playback.
(2) There are no sample questions before the start of the computer-based listening test.
(3) When the listening test time is up, the system will automatically collect the papers.
(4) There is a remaining time display in the middle of the upper part of the screen, but it is only accurate to the minute.
(5) The matching question options need to be dragged to the corresponding question.
(6) Some questions are arranged horizontally, so be careful not to miss them.
(7) The options in the listening section cannot be marked.

Reading (60mins)

(3) After the test starts, the essay on the left and the question on the right.
(4) There is a question selection button below, and all 40 questions can be selected at will.
The question number color corresponds to the following information:
Blue: Answering
Gray: Answered
Black: No answer yet
Circle: to be reviewed (click the "review" button to mark the topic to be reviewed)
3. Precautions for the exam
(1) In Heading questions, when you drag the answer into the answer position with the mouse, the options will be reduced accordingly.
(2) Fill-in-the-blank answers can be copied and pasted directly from the original text, but be careful not to copy extra spaces!
(3) Don't add extra spaces when typing.
(4) There is a remaining time display in the middle of the upper part of the screen, but it is only accurate to the minute.
(5) When the reading test time is up, the system will automatically collect the papers.

Right-click and check "Clear" to unmark.
Right-click in the blank space and select "Clear all" to cancel all markers.
Writing (60mins)

3. Precautions for the exam
(1) The number of entered words is displayed in real time at the bottom left of the answer sheet, and the typing can be deleted. However, there must be a blank line between each paragraph, and there should be no space at the beginning of each paragraph.
(2) When the writing test time is up, the system will automatically collect the papers.
(3) There is no automatic spell check and correction in the writing section.
(4) There is a remaining time display in the middle of the upper part of the screen, but it is only accurate to the minute.
(5) When the time for the writing test is up, the system will automatically collect the papers.
