In 1996, before dying, an old man left a will that read:
"The realization of communism is a millennial cause ... This cause must be victorious, but it must be achieved through a long struggle. ”
This old man was Lu Dingyi.
On June 9, 1906, Lu Dingyi was born in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province. He is a great communist fighter in our country, an outstanding proletarian revolutionary, and an outstanding leader of the propaganda and ideological front of the Communist Party of China. From 1927 onwards, he served as director of the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and representative of the Communist Youth League to the Young Communist International. During the Long March, he worked in the Political Propaganda Department of the "Red Seal" Column of the First Front of the Red Army, and later served as the propaganda director of the General Political Department of the Red Army. After the founding of New China, he served as director of the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee, vice premier of the State Council, secretary of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, minister of culture, and vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
Lu Dingyi is one of the editors-in-chief of China Youth magazine, published more than 200 articles in this magazine, and has a deep affection for the magazine. In November 1953, Lu Dingyi attended the 30th anniversary of the founding of "China Youth" and delivered a speech, clearly recalling the early history of "China Youth", hoping that "China Youth" would "inherit the glorious traditions of the past" and once again "realize its historical mission" in the new historical period. On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the founding of China Youth, he accepted an exclusive interview with this magazine and wrote a gift: ""China Youth" is different from ordinary youth books, her task is to study the ideological and political problems of young people and solve them from a Marxist point of view. Since then, on the 63rd and 65th anniversaries of the founding of China Youth, Lu Dingyi has written two inscriptions.

In fact, three years after the founding of "China Youth", Lu Dingyi, who was only 20 years old, was associated with it. At that time, he transferred to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, served as an assistant to Liu Changqun, the editor-in-chief of China Youth at that time, and began to participate in the editing and publishing work. In May 1927, Lu Dingyi was elected as a member of the Central Committee of the League, served as the director of the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the League, and edited "Chinese Youth". From the end of 1926 to October 1927, Lu Dingyi wrote 33 articles in the magazine "China Youth" under the signatures of "Dingyi" and "DY", including "Don't Forget the Testament of Dr. Sun Yat-sen" and "Oppose the Imperialist War Under Preparation".

In 1943, Lu Dingyi proposed that "the definition of news is the reporting of recent facts." Just 13 words, but its meaning is abundant, covering all the characteristics of journalism, deeply supported and supported by the majority of journalists, and is still used by the textbooks of university journalism departments. Lu Dingyi put forward in his famous journalism paper "Our Basic Views on Journalism": "Only newspapers that serve the people and newspapers that have close ties with the people can get real news." ”
In 1946, Mao Zedong received the American journalist Anna Louise Strong in Yan'an, and Lu Dingyi was beside him as an interpreter. Strong recalled: "I was delighted to see lu Dingyi as the official translator of our conversation. The conversation went smoothly, and Lu Dingyi translated it so quickly and naturally that I could hardly feel the language barrier. ”
During the conversation, when Mao Zedong talked about "the atomic bomb is a paper tiger used by American reactionaries to scare people", translation was blocked because there was no corresponding word for "paper tiger" in English. Lu Dingyi wanted to replace it with a "scarecrow", which Mao Zedong felt was inappropriate. Lu Ding thought for a moment and simply translated "Papertiger, the tiger made of paper."
In this conversation, Mao Zedong's "imperialism and all reactionaries are paper tigers" spread through Strong to the whole world and became one of the most outstanding propositions. Since then, a new word has been added to the English dictionary - Papertiger.
On May 9, 1996, Lu Dingyi completed his glorious and great life at the age of 90. Lu Dingyi wrote in his will:
"I fought for communism all my life." In and out of a few lives and deaths, the past wept ghosts and gods'. Looking back on the past, from political ideas to personal qualities and personal morality, there are no regrets. I do not have such 'sorrow', because the revolution in which I personally participated overthrew two thousand years of feudal rule and a hundred years of imperialist rule and lifted China onto the road of prosperity and strength. Where is there any 'sadness' to speak of. I miss the countless famous and unknown martyrs who died in the revolution, and I believe that the people of Chinese will always remember them... I am old and unable to make more contributions to revolution and construction, and I believe that there will be a successor. ”
This old man who has fought several times with the god of death has never wavered in his faith in the party and the revolution.
