Fan Qibiao also found the relics of that year: a blanket, a blue cloth package, and a copper washbasin.
Knowing that he was a descendant of the Red Army and that his parents who had raised him for 15 years were not biological, Fan Jiading was a little shocked. So, where did his biological parents go? Why did you leave him behind?
Fan Jiading found that there was a faint handwriting on the blue cloth package, but it was not clear to see. His adoptive father told him that the cloth package turned out to be white with the words written on it with a brush. They were illiterate, afraid of being found by the white bandits and causing trouble, so they dyed it blue and covered up the handwriting.

He went home to try it, and sure enough, a few lines of vertical brush characters "Sent to the Sanitary Materials Factory of Pipa Township, Ping'an District, Shengli County, comrade Tang Yizhen" appeared. There is also a postmark on it, but it is blurred.
"Tang Yizhen", could it be the name of the mother?
Fan Jiading began a long road of searching for relatives. After many inquiries, it was finally clear that Shengli County was a county set up in the Central Soviet District, and his mother's real name was "Tang Yizhen".
01 - The love of life and death, giving away her daughter for the revolution
Tang Yizhen was born in a family of intellectuals on the outskirts of Wuchang City, Hubei Province, the son of a well-known old Chinese medicine doctor. In 1926, she joined the Communist Youth League, and three years later she went to Moscow to study at Sun Yat-sen University.
In Moscow, Tang Yizhen became acquainted with Lu Dingyi, the CPC's representative to the Young Communist Party International and director of the Propaganda Department of the League Central Committee. He is 3 years older than Tang Yizhen, handsome in appearance, frank and enthusiastic, and talented.
The common ideals and beliefs made this pair of talented young people have a sincere love. In December 1929, the two married in a foreign country and became partners in the revolution.
Because of their secret work, they didn't even take a group photo after they got married. Years later, this also became a major regret in Lu Dingyi's heart.
In 1930, Lu Dingyi returned to China under the arrangement of the organization, and his wife Tang Yizhen stayed in Moscow to continue studying medicine. Soon after the new marriage, the young couple will be separated.
Soon after Lu Dingyi returned to Shanghai, Tang Yizhen also returned to China after finishing his studies and went to Shanghai to visit her husband. The short time in Shanghai was a relatively stable home life after marriage.
In November 1931, the couple received orders from the organization to go to Ruijin, Jiangxi. Lu Dingyi served as the head of the Propaganda Department of the Soviet Union, and Tang Yizhen was appointed as the director of the Medicinal Materials Bureau.
On December 30, 1931, Tang Yizhen gave birth to a girl in Ruijin Yeping, and in order to commemorate this revolutionary holy place, he named the child "Yeping".
In May 1933, Lu Dingyi arrived in the Central Soviet District from Shanghai. In October 1934, the fifth anti-"encirclement and suppression" campaign failed, and the main force of the Red Army was forced to carry out a major strategic shift. Lu Dingyi knew the news of the Long March and was very sad.
Over the course of more than a year, the couple had a second child. Because she was pregnant, Tang Yizhen could not follow the large army on the Long March.
The day before the Departure of the Central Red Army, Lu Dingyi hurried to say goodbye to his wife. Looking at his beloved wife's bulging body, he had mixed feelings and a surge of emotion. Seeing her husband's face full of guilt and pain, he comforted:
"Look at you worried about this, I am such a big person, will not take care of myself?" You can rest assured, whether the child is born male or female, it is called Xiaoding, do you say yes? ”

"When a woman is married, she will have children, and if she has children, won't it affect the revolution?" This was a topic of frequent debate between Tang Yizhen and her husband in the Soviet Union, and now she faces this dilemma.
The war environment was so fierce, the revolutionary cause was tense and arduous, Tang Yizhen was pregnant and still had a daughter, how could he devote himself to work? If only one head can be taken care of, the only way to give the child is to give it away!
Thinking of this, Tang Yizhen's heart tightened. Who can understand the pain of abandoning the flesh and bones of a mother when she first becomes a mother?
For many nights, Tang Yizhen tossed and turned, but finally she made up her mind to give away her daughter Ye Ping, who was less than 3 years old. She unwrapped her clothes overnight and sewed a few cotton jackets for her daughter, and also took out a pair of ancestral ivory chopsticks as a keepsake so that she could recognize each other in the future.
After dawn, Tang Yizhen gave his daughter Ye Ping to Zhang Dewan and asked him to find a reliable family to foster her, while she moved with Mao Zeqin and He Yi.
02- The enemy is pressing and has no choice but to send his son away
Tang Yizhen, who had a big belly, under the care of Mao Zeqin and He Yi, accompanied the personnel of the organs over the mountains from Ruijin into the territory of Changting in Fujian.
On the night of arriving in Changting, Tang Yizhen's stomach hurt, and she thought that she had just moved the tire gas on a long journey, and it was not the time to give birth. He Yi saw that the situation was not right, and quickly placed her in the family of Fan Qibiao, a farmer in the village. On the second day of the Fan family, Tang Yizhen gave birth to a baby boy, named Xiaoding.
The child was only 6 days old, and Tang Yizhen had to be transferred with the organ. The newborn baby could not carry it, but could only hold it in her arms, which was painful for her. Every day, I have to drive sixty or seventy miles with my child in my arms, and I am tired and sweaty. Fortunately, the baby is surprisingly well-behaved and rarely cries.
Tang Yizhen originally wanted to take the child with him, but a few days later, Mao Zeqin said to her: "No matter how well the child is, it is extremely inconvenient to bring it, so let's find a way to put it away." After hearing this, Tang Yizhen was shocked, his body was shaking, and he was stunned for a while and could not speak.
The Kuomintang 36th Division was pressing forward step by step, the situation was critical, and comrades with children must hand over their children to the masses as soon as possible, otherwise the burden would be too great.
Looking at Tang Yizhen's painful expression of losing his soul, Mao Zeqin said with some unbearable emotion in his heart: "Yizhen, you can still consider, or hide for a period of time first, and then return to the team later." Tang Yizhen said with tears: "Secretary Mao, I will give Xiaoding away!" ”
That night, under the faint tung oil lamp, Tang Yizhen once again survived a sleepless night. Twice for the revolution, a pair of children were given away, and the pain in the young mother's heart can be imagined. She cut off a blouse and made a set of pants for the child until the second half of the night.
The next morning, Tang Yizhen carried the child to Fan Qibiao and his wife, and said in a trembling voice: "From today onwards, this child is your child, please..." At this point, tears came out of his eyes.
Tang Yizhen left a blanket and a copper washbasin behind, and wrote down the address of his hometown in Wuchang, Hubei Province, in Chinese and Russian, and said to them: "Big brother and sister-in-law, when the revolution is victorious, if I don't come again, it means that I am no longer alive, but you must also tell your children that I died for the revolution." ”
Fan Qibiao and his wife understood Tang Yizhen's painful feelings, and they comforted him: "You can rest assured, we will definitely take the child well, and the leftovers of the vegetable soup will also feed him up, so that your mother and son will recognize each other later." ”
Tang Yizhen nodded gratefully, and finally took a look at Xiao Ding in the swaddling, and resolutely turned away.
On January 28, 1935, Tang Yizhen's guerrilla group was unfortunately surrounded by Kuomintang troops in a long and deep mountain pit. The enemy was surrounded from all sides, and although the guerrillas put up stubborn resistance, Tang Yizhen and others were still captured.
That night, Tang Yizhen and two other gay men used their teeth to bite open the brown rope tied to their arms, jumped out of the window and escaped from the temporary prison. After dawn, the enemy found them fleeing and sent troops to search around.
On the afternoon of the third day, Tang Yizhen fell into enemy hands again. The enemy deduced that a woman dared to escape from prison, certainly not a mediocre person, and wanted to know from her where the CCP organs were going, so he tortured her inhumanely, incense burned herself, in order to extract a confession.
Tang Yizhen was burned to death by the incense fire, and the enemy woke her up with cold water, and she clenched her teeth without revealing half a word.
03- Rather die unyieldingly and swallow top secret documents to sacrifice
The enemy inflicted inhuman torture on Tang Yizhen, causing her to pass out several times. The enemy officers and men in charge of the torture judged her to be a cadre, decided not to execute her for the time being, and threw her into a house and was strictly guarded.
After a long time, Tang Yizhen woke up and thought that he still had a simple road map on his body, which depicted the route from Ruijin and Huichang to The Oil Mountain and the main surrounding villages where Xinfeng and Dayu intersected. It was painted the night before when the three men discussed going to Oil Mountain separately to look for troops.
Tang Yizhen had been hiding in the cracks of his clothes, and when he was arrested again, he had no time to destroy it. She quickly found the note, intending to chew it up and swallow it. At this time, the enemy soldiers guarding outside found out, shouted "no swallowing" and opened the door and rushed in. However, Tang Yizhen had already swallowed the note.
The enemy tied Tang Yizhen back up and forced her to swallow what documents? Tang Yizhen didn't say a word, and the corners of his mouth revealed a contemptuous sneer.
The enemy suspected that she had swallowed a very important secret and intended to remove it by caesarean section. So he took Tang Yizhen to the tree outside the venue and threatened her: "Don't you tell what document it is?" Cut open your stomach now! Are you afraid or not! Tang Yizhen said quietly, "I only have one life, you can do it at any time!" ”
Seeing that Tang Yizhen was unyielding, the enemy no longer hesitated and ordered to shoot at her. Tang Yizhen sacrificed at the age of 25 and sacrificed her young life for the revolution.
After Tang Yizhen's death, the enemy did not let her go, and cruelly dissected her in a vain attempt to find the confidential documents she swallowed, but they found nothing.
After lu Dingyi bid farewell to his wife in 1934, he embarked on a long journey with the Central Red Army. On the Long March, he served as the propaganda director of the Red Army. After the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, he successively served as the propaganda director of the Eighth Route Army and the deputy director of the Field Political Department of the Forward Headquarters of the Eighth Route Army.
In 1941, Lu Dingyi returned to Yan'an from Taihang and served as the editor-in-chief of Liberation Daily. In November 1943, when He Yi returned to Yan'an from Jiangxi, Lu Dingyi learned of his wife's death from her. He Yi told him:
Shortly after Tang Yizhen gave birth to her second child, the enemy captured her. Comrade Tang Yizhen scolded the enemy, and the enemy cut open her stomach and let her die. When the martyr Tang Yizhen died, his mouth was full of soil, which Mao Zeqin told me. ”
Before Tang Yizhen sacrificed, his last words to her husband were: "As long as I survive, I will definitely fight for the revolution." If they can be reunited, of course they are willing; when it is impossible for the sake of revolution, they can only go with it. ”
When Lu Dingyi learned the bad news of his wife's sacrifice, he was so pained that he could not speak. He spent countless sleepless nights drying up his tears.
Grieving the loss of his beloved wife and the separation of flesh and bones, Lu Dingyi secretly resolved that even if he stepped on the iron shoes, he would find a pair of lost children. However, the sea of people is vast, where to find it?
In 1949, after the founding of New China, Lu Dingyi successively served as the propaganda director of the CPC Central Committee and the vice premier of the State Council, and reached the rank of vice state. He commissioned several times to go to the Gannan area to look for his daughter Ye Ping and son Xiaoding, but in the end there was no result. A series of events later forced him to give up the search for a pair of children.
04- The road to find relatives, waiting for 53 years for a family reunion
In 1959, after Learning that his mother's name was Tang Yizhen, Fan Jiading began a long road of searching for relatives.
After 7 years of searching and inquiring from all sides, it was finally determined that his father was Lu Dingyi, vice premier of the State Council and director of the Central Propaganda Department. However, just when the father and son were about to get in touch, Lu Dingyi had an accident and was imprisoned in Qincheng Prison for 13 years.
At the beginning of 1979, Fan Jiading saw the news of his father Lu Dingyi's release from prison in the newspaper. On August 12, 1979, the day of father-son recognition finally arrived.
45-year-old Fan Jiading and 73-year-old Lu Dingyi father and son recognized each other, two pairs of blood-linked hands clasped together, both of them were in tears, this day they waited for 45 years!
In September 1980, the elderly Lu Dingyi invited Fan Qibiao and his family to Fuzhou for a party. He tightly held the hands of Fan Qibiao and his wife and said affectionately: "Thank you, thank you to the people in the old district!" You adopted and nurtured children in those difficult years, this is a real life-and-death relationship! You are the regenerative parents of your children. ”
Fan Qibiao proposed to change Fan Jiading back to Lu's surname, but Elder Lu did not agree. The child is a member of the Lu family and a member of the Fan family, so it is better to change his name to "Lu Fan Jiading". For Lu Lao's proposal, everyone readily agreed.
Lu Dingyi, the father, told his son: "You also have an older sister who is three years older than you, named Ye Ping, whose whereabouts are still unknown. ”

The old man fell into heavy memories and wrote those years affectionately into a reminiscence article to mourn his wife's "Memories of the Martyr Tang Yizhen". Perhaps it was already doomed that the family would eventually be reunited under the protection of their wives.
In July 1987, Lai Zhangsheng, a teacher at the Southern Metallurgical Institute, saw an article entitled "Memories of the Martyr Tang Yizhen", which talked about all kinds of things, which were very similar to the experience of his mother Zhang Laidi.
Lai Zhangsheng quickly wrote a letter to Lu Dingyi in Beijing. After receiving the letter, the old man immediately asked his son to come to Nanchang with the letter and met Zhang Laidi, who was busy in the vegetable garden.
Lu Fanjia's heart was beating wildly, and the face of the eldest sister in front of him resembled that of his father. After many investigations and inquiries, it was finally confirmed that Zhang Laidi was Lu Dingyi's daughter Ye Ping, who had been lost for 53 years.
In late November 1987, Lu Fanjiading came to Nanchang again, and as soon as he got out of the car, he eagerly walked to Zhang Laidi, shook her hand, and said, "Sister, we are here to pick you up and the whole family to meet your father."
