Iran is the origin of pistachios. According to botanists, Rafsanjan in Kerman province is the cradle of pistachios, and Ardaraj Village has one of the oldest pistachio trees in the world, more than 1500 years old and still flourishing. Iran has nearly 360,000 hectares of land devoted to pistachio cultivation, of which 270,000 hectares are in Kerman province, accounting for 77% of the total production and 9% of exports of non-oil products. In addition to Kerman Province, nearly 10 provinces such as Yazd, South Khorasan and Central Province also have large-scale cultivation. Although the production of pistachios in the United States has surpassed Iran to rank first in recent years, the industry and consumers believe that the pistachios with the best quality and taste are still produced in Iran. China imports more and more pistachios from Iran every year. There are more than 90 varieties of Iranian pistachios, of which 5 are the main varieties commercialized, which are divided into 2 main categories in appearance - hazelnut-shaped and almond-shaped, Fandoghi and Kalle Ghouchi hazelnut-shaped, and Akbari, Ahmad Aghaei, and Badami are almond-shaped. Fandoghi has a large production and is the most cultivated variety, and the kernels are smaller than other varieties, resulting in a higher number of pellets per kilogram, making it the largest export variety in Iran. Larger and with a unique taste, Kalle Ghouchi is a high-end variety of pistachios.
