Android 14 First Exposure: Flipping the Cake

Recently, some of the first commits related to Android 14 have appeared on Android Gerrit, and from the code, you can see that its code name is "Upside Down Cake". Because of the naming, it just happened to be the turn of the letter U, so Upside Down Cake is expected to be the code name for this version.

It is reported that the flip cake is a cake baked upside down in a pan, and the ingredients (usually slices of fruit such as apples or pineapples) are placed at the bottom of the pan. Then pour the batter on top and bake it in the oven.

The Naming Convention of the Android system from the beginning is to use an alphabetical list for naming, and each major version update will usher in a new dessert name.

Let's review Android's previous dessert codenames: Android 1.5 is called Cupcake, Android 1.6 is called Donut, Android 2.2 is called Frioyo (frozen yogurt), Android 2.3 is called Gingerbread (gingerbread), Android 3.0 is called Honeycomb ( Honeycomb ( hive), android 4.0 is called Ice Cream Sandwich (ice cream sandwich) and more.

But Google started with Android 10 with numbers, though the tradition of naming code names for desserts has been preserved, albeit for internal use.

It is understood that the reason why Google cancels the android dessert code is mainly because Android is a global operating system, and some dessert names are difficult for people of different cultures to understand.
