Yesterday, after watching the mercedes-Benz EQS SUV conference, I immediately opened the car home model library, selected all SUVs, and then clicked on the pure electric in the new energy classification, and finally limited the price to more than 1 million.
And guess what?
Not a single car met the requirements...
Since the price of the "Leek" Model X, more than one million pure electric SUVs have disappeared.
The only ones close to this number are the BMW iX M60 and Model X Plaid editions, which are both medium and large SUVs with sporty performance pricing above 990,000, but they have not touched the 1 million line.
And the only one who dares to let the price cross this line is probably Mercedes-Benz in 2022.
Although at last night's globally unified press conference, Mercedes-Benz did not announce the domestic pricing of the EQS pure electric SUV. But the S-class suffix and the positioning of the luxury large SUV already indicate that the starting price of this car will definitely be above 1 million.
For reference, the current starting price of EQS pure electric SUV in the UK market is £100,000, which is 5 pounds more expensive than EQS.
So the question is, is the Mercedes-Benz EQS pure electric SUV worth 1 million?
First of all, I can't help but want to spit on this name. EQS SUV, is this Mercedes-Benz's official name for the flagship of this EQ series SUV?
Although it is easy to distinguish, at a glance, you can see that this is an SUV version of EQS. But when I read it, I feel very casual, and I don't have the feeling of being easy to remember and style like GLS, CLS, and SL.
And I noticed that in the official map released by Mercedes-Benz, this car has no tail mark, and the only one that has a map on it is EQS. So when it is officially launched, will Mercedes-Benz give it a new name, such as EQ GS?
Of course, the naming and product power have nothing to do with it, so let's focus on this EQS SUV.
As is customary, the first thing to talk about is the exterior and interior of the EQS SUV. But for the exterior and interior design of this car, I don't think there are many new technologies or eye-catching designs that can be said to be spoken of.
After all, this car is an SUV version of EQS, which inherits most of the design language and functions of EQS. Compared with the EQS, the biggest difference between the EQS SUV is only the body shape of the SUV, and the three-row seven-seat interior layout that comes with it.
However, compared with the EQS, which compromises the appearance in order to achieve the extreme wind resistance coefficient, the shape of the EQS SUV may be more in line with the aesthetic needs of most people.
Judging from the photos, it's really hard to detect that this is a large SUV with a length of 5125mm and a width of 1959mm. The streamlined but just right body design gives the EQS SUV a visually lightweight feel, although the larger "Night Star Array" net still seems a bit out of line.
However, compared with EQS, the shape of the EQS SUV will be more acceptable to us.
In terms of product positioning, the EQS SUV corresponds to the GLS in the fuel vehicle. However, as a pure electric vehicle, it did not inherit the boxy shape of this traditional large SUV, but chose the same smooth body line as the EQS.
This also means that for Mercedes-Benz, the EQ brand and traditional Mercedes-Benz are completely separated in such high-end models, and only the code name can be continued. At this point, mercedes-benz and BMW have chosen two paths for now.
Going back to the EQS SUV, like the EQS, it has a wheelbase of 3210mm, even surpassing the full-size SUV. Coupled with the flat bottom space under the EVA pure electric platform, the spatial performance of the EQS SUV will theoretically be better than that of the same level of fuel models.
And in order to reflect the sense of luxury, Mercedes-Benz not only equipped the second row of seats with a wealth of electric adjustment functions. The access of the third row of seats also adopts the EASY-ENTRY convenient access system, which can move the second row of seats with one click, and the third row is no longer awkward.
However, the spatial performance of this third row seems to be a bit cramped from the official chart, but the specific feelings still need to be known through actual experience. Of course, Mercedes-Benz also planned a Maybach version of the EQS SUV, if it is a 4-seater version, then this rear row can really lie casually.
As for the interior layout, the EQS SUV basically copied the EQS. Whether it is a center console equipped with MBUX super-screen, or a hardware configuration with a built-in 8-core CPU and 24GB of memory, this is a familiar recipe and a familiar taste.
It's just that Mercedes-Benz actually equipped the second row of the EQS SUV with two Type-C and two HDMI interfaces, plus the Berlin Sound system that can support Dolby Atmos, and it is not possible to play games by sitting in the back row and connecting the PS5. But unfortunately, Mercedes-Benz actually did not leave a 220V power interface...
Finally, we should talk about the power and endurance of the EQS SUV.
Still like the EQS, the EQS SUV offers a single-motor rear-drive 450+ and a dual-motor four-wheel drive 580 power version with a peak torque of 265kW and 400kW respectively. In addition to the Maybach version just mentioned, the EQS SUV will also be available in the future with a stronger AMG version.
Of course, in order to make the EQS SUV easier to handle and increase the flexibility of the vehicle, this model is equipped with a rear wheel steering system as standard, and the angle can reach 4.5 degrees. If you don't feel flexible enough, you can even add money to upgrade the steering angle to a maximum of 10 degrees.
And what's even more interesting is that this upgrade doesn't need to change the hardware, OTA is ok!
In addition, in terms of cruising range, the 450+ version equipped with a single motor has a maximum cruising range of 660 km under the WLTP standard. The EQS with the same power under the same standard is 770 km.
The unsurprising gap, under the premise of the same power system, compared with suvs and cars, cars with lighter bodies and lower wind resistance are naturally advantageous. But what I didn't understand is that in the official data, the battery capacity of the EQS is 111.8kWh, but the EQS SUV is 107kWh.
Logically, the battery capacity is just as reasonable, and the EQS SUV is more reasonable. But what is the EQS will be more, is it a different calculation method?

If you were to ask me if the EQS SUV is worth 1 million?
My first answer was, value. This is a Mercedes-Benz with an "S" in its name, it is the flagship, and it can also bring you luxurious texture, driving quality and performance that meet this price point.
But as a pure electric car, it seems to be less worthwhile. It is hard to imagine that a new car released in 2022 and built on a pure electric platform seems to be at the level of a traditional fuel vehicle in terms of intelligent driving ability.
In the 37,000-word product profile, Mercedes-Benz only mentions intelligent driving, but does not mention automatic driving. In the German domestic market, Mercedes-Benz has the world's first L3 level autonomous driving system that can be put on the road.
But mercedes-benz in the EQS SUV promotion, just with a sentence that the future lidar will be mounted in the grille.
So if you want to buy a Mercedes with a million-dollar luxury experience, the EQS SUV is definitely worth it. However, if you want to buy a car that belongs to the new era, I think the EQS SUV may not be the best option.
