Mercedes-Benz EQS: The more expensive, the less anxious it is? | extreme anxiety

"Extreme Speed Anxiety" is a column dedicated to testing the high-speed endurance performance of electric vehicles. We do not measure the photoelectric, do not measure the full power, we only measure the high-speed battery life. We will charge the electricity to 80%, and then run a lap against the speed limit on the Second Loop of Chengdu to see how the real high-speed endurance performance of the electric car is. Today, we are testing the most expensive Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle, the EQS.

The test vehicle, the EQS 580, is the top of the Mercedes-Benz EQS series and the only four-wheel drive model. CLTC has a range of 720km and a battery pack capacity of 111.8 kWh (111.8 kWh). The other three models are also 111.8 kWh, but they are single-motor models that can run 849 km.

Before departure, we charged the power of this EQS to about 82%, the meter display endurance of 582km, and then we cleared the mileage, power consumption and other related data to zero. At the same time, we adjusted the driving mode to ECO mode, adjusted the kinetic energy recovery to the maximum (EQS kinetic energy recovery adjustment is very special, the paddle shift behind the steering wheel), the air conditioning to 22 degrees, the air volume is one gear.

Measured data for extreme anxiety

When we came to the entrance of the Chengdu Second Ring Expressway toll station, the EQS HAD a SOC of 79%, and as soon as we entered the highway, we increased the speed to 120km/h.

1. The first observation mileage was when driving 100km on the highway, the average speed reached 91km/h, the power loss was 20% SOC, basically can be seen as 6.94 discount, the apparent energy consumption is 22.6kWh/100 km.

2. The second observation mileage is when driving 200km, the average speed is 90km/h (stop in the service area in the middle), the power loss is 20% SOC, which can basically be seen as a 30% discount, and the energy consumption is 21.6kWh/100 km/ km.

3. When the next second orbit, the energy consumption of the table is 21.3kWh/100 km, the remaining 36% SOC, and the remaining mileage of the table is 221km, which can basically be seen as about 30% off.

After the second detour, we drove this EQS to the BP fast charging station (120kW charging pile) for refueling. In total, we drove 220 kilometers on the second loop, 79% SOC on the high speed, and 36% SOC when the next high speed, so theoretically consumed 43% of the SOC, converted out, the table consumed 309km of endurance -

220/309 = 7.11, that is, the high-speed endurance discount calculated by the EQS 580 (dual-motor four-wheel drive model) is 7.1% off.

In other words: under full power, this EQS with a CLTC endurance of 720km can complete the extreme anxiety challenge of about 511 km. To use a popular analogy, full power from Chengdu to Chongqing to eat a hot pot and then recharge, the problem is not big.

In terms of charging efficiency, in theory, Mercedes-Benz EQS supports 200kW fast charging, but in daily life, the most common is the 120kW charging pile, this time we are also in the BP fast charging pile to replenish this EQS.

Charging from 33%, but because this charging pile is still charging another electric vehicle, it will "shunt" a part, at this time the charging power of EQS is about 80kW; and when the 120kW charging pile is charged EQS, the charging power of EQS can be about 110kW, which is very efficient.

We finally used 40 minutes to charge from 33% SOC to 83%, and if we have been charging EQS with a single charging pile, it is theoretically not a big problem to charge from 30% to 80% within 30 minutes.

Basic driving experience

After entering the highway section, we opened the L2 level autopilot assist system equipped with Mercedes-Benz EQS, including adaptive cruise, lane keeping and automatic lane change assist, although not as radical as the new power brand or Tesla's autopilot function, but it is still easier to experience.

The UI design of the entire central control screen looks very Mercedes-Benz, although it is not as delicate as the UI of Tesla or the new forces, but the interface layout is still clear and clear, and it is not difficult to get started.

In terms of driving experience, as mentioned earlier, the EQS 580 is the only four-wheel drive and dual-motor model in the Mercedes-Benz EQS series, with a total power of 385kW and a total peak torque of 855N·m. From the parametric point of view, its performance has surpassed any ordinary version of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, at the same time, its drag coefficient is only 0.2Cd (is currently the lowest production car in the world), so "performance violent" is definitely a highlight of the EQS 580.

In the actual experience, the 4.4s of the strength of the hundred is indeed very strong, if replaced by Mercedes-Benz fuel vehicles, the closest is equipped with a 12V engine of AMG S65L, 4.2s to break the hundred, but the price of AMG S65L is more than 3 million yuan, if from this point of view, Mercedes-Benz EQS cost-effective is still relatively high.

And EQS's electric door also provides two-stage pedal adjustment, in normal mode, normal step on the electric door, the speed of the vehicle feels no different from ordinary family cars, light and stable; but when you step deep or floor electric door, its surging power is displayed.

Mercedes-Benz EQS has a wheelbase of 3210mm, using a combination of front double wishbones + rear multi-link suspension, and the wheelbase of more than 3.2 meters is at a medium level in the D-class sedan, but its advantage is also outstanding - that is, flexibility, because the EQS uses a rear wheel steering system, and its rear wheel steering angle is up to 10 °, which is the largest rear wheel steering angle that consumers can buy at present.

The advantage of this feature is that it makes the EQS more flexible, such as when driving at high speeds, parallel overtaking, which is faster than other models in the same class, and the vehicle attitude is more stable. On the other hand, the steering wheel of the EQS is relatively soft, the steering damping is moderate, and it still has the taste of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

OK, this is today's Mercedes-Benz EQS extreme anxiety test, in the future let's test more models together, point wave attention does not get lost.
