At the summary and commendation meeting of the Beijing Winter Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games held on April 8, the Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University was awarded the title of "Outstanding Contribution Collective of the Beijing Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games". As a senior expert of the Image landscape department of the Cultural Activities Department of the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee, Lin Cunzhen, vice president of the School of Design of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, was awarded the title of "Outstanding Contribution Individual of the Beijing Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games".
The School of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University has played its disciplinary expertise and participated in and led more than ten important design work, including the outer torch platform of the three major competition areas of the Winter Olympic Games and the Winter Paralympic Games, and the overall visual effects design of the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Winter Paralympic Games. Lin Cunzhen is the designer of the emblems of the Beijing Winter Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. At the same time, she is also responsible for the creative design and implementation of the image landscape of the Cultural Activities Department of the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee.
The outer torch platform of the three major competition areas is simple and elegant like ice and snow dancers, and the Chinese character emblem contains the beauty of calligraphy, from the "concentric" medal, the "flying" torch, the award bouquet to the venue landscape design, all of which present a new image of Chinese culture, and the Beijing Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games will integrate art and science, perfectly presenting a sports event full of Chinese charm and Chinese wisdom.
The simple and flexible ribbon shape impresses the world, and the "Snowflake" torch platform located in the National Stadium (Olympic Central Area), the Yanqing Division in Beijing and the Zhangjiakou Division in Hebei Province was designed by Professor Marseille, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University. "Art design needs beauty, but it must be able to implement the ground, otherwise it is just a good picture." Marseille believes that how to better combine technology and art and realize creativity is the future direction. On the basis of the main torch of the opening ceremony, the "Snowflake" torch platform integrates art and engineering technology, rotating in the direction of crystal snowflakes and flexible ribbons, light and elegant like dancers, interpreting purity, peace, unity and friendship, which has become one of the highlights of the Winter Olympic Games. It is reported that these three torch platforms will be permanently preserved as Olympic cultural heritage.
At the closing ceremony of the Winter Paralympic Games, the huge "phonograph" with a diameter of about 55 meters constantly "solidified" the memory image, showing the wonderful moments of hard work on the field and stunning the world. Wang Zhigang, video director of the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2022 Beijing Winter Paralympic Games and director of the Department of Information Art Design at the Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University, said, "Compared with many new storage media now, records have a textured texture and emotional temperature, which is more likely to hook up the audience's empathy for the memory and nostalgia of this precious time. ”

Professor Xu Yingqing's team at Tsinghua University's School of Fine Arts is responsible for conceptual creative design planning, providing creative advice and conceptual design for the Winter Olympics. In addition, the design of the iconic landscape "Haituo Pagoda" in the Yanqing Competition Area of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, the urban landscape design of the Beijing Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, the image landscape design of the National Gymnasium, the Ancient Poplar Tree Venue Group and the Wukesong Stadium, the design of the Beijing Winter Olympics Figure Skating Exhibition Midfield - Light and Shadow Performance Design, and the design of the Beijing Winter Olympic and Paralympic Concession Commodity Wenjun Bottle are all from the design team of the Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University.
More than 50 teachers from the Department of Industrial Design, the Department of Environmental Art Design, the Department of Information Art Design, the Department of Sculpture, and the Department of Arts and Crafts of the Academy of Fine Arts, as well as more than 50 students, deeply participated in the design work, successfully completed the design tasks, and contributed artistic power to the Beijing Winter Olympic Games and the Winter Paralympic Games.
Lin Cunzhen serves as the image landscape art director of the Cultural Activities Department of the Beijing Winter Olympic Organizing Committee, and she coordinates the various elements of the Winter Olympic Games design and manages the full implementation of the Winter Olympic landscape. From the bidding logo to the emblem of the Winter Olympic Games and the Winter Paralympic Games, from the color system and core graphics to the mascot, sports icons and torches, from the overall planning and design of the landscape to the implementation of every picture of each venue, the improvement of each project has her efforts. She led the team to work with all the designers involved to deliver a high-level Chinese answer sheet to the world.
