In the upper part of the emblem, is the image of a speed skater, the lower half is the image of a skier, these two figures combined together can be abstractly imagined as some other ice and snow sports, there is a streamer fluttering swirling part in the middle, like the movement of a bobsleigh, the whole is like a spinning figure skater's ice and snow shape, the whole is a very abstract concept of ice and snow sports, reflecting the Olympic Games to the core of the athletes' club concept.
Talking about the original intention of the design of the emblem, the designer Lin Cunzhen said that Chinese characters are a feature of Chinese culture and also carry the genes of Chinese culture, so they finally chose Chinese characters as the core image expression. Lin Cunzhen, director of image landscape art of the Cultural Activities Department of the Beijing Winter Olympic Organizing Committee and designer of the emblem of the Beijing Winter Olympics, said in an interview with reporters: "'Winter' is also a key feature of the Winter Olympics, it is held in the winter ice and snow sports, so the word "winter" is a good refinement and summary of the Winter Olympics, so we use the Chinese character "winter" to do it. Its form of expression is calligraphy, because calligraphy itself is one of the highest artistic realms in China, calligraphy is very flexible, but also with a sense of speed, it also has rhythm, in fact, it is very similar to movement, so we combine the smooth rhythm of calligraphy with the state of ice and snow sports. ”
In addition to Chinese calligraphy, on the basis of not affecting the elements of the movement itself, when designing the emblem, Lin Cunzhen's team also took into account the elements of the traditional Chinese festival Spring Festival in terms of color and other aspects. Lin Cunzhen, director of image landscape art of the Cultural Activities Department of the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee and designer of the emblem of the Beijing Winter Olympics, said in an interview with reporters: "The word 'Fu' and the Spring League are the embodiment of a calligraphy, and we have also considered writing the Spring Festival, pasting the word "Fu", which is the embodiment of Chinese Spring Festival culture, so at that time, the choice of calligraphy would also take this into account, and we also made a special design at that time, that is, to put the emblem on the rice paper with gold on a red background, reflected in ink color, in fact, it looks quite festive. We have the form of a streamer here, and the form of relatively rich colors is actually an intentional embodiment of the Spring Festival. ”
In addition, the morphology of the seal "BEIJING 2022" font also draws on the characteristics of Chinese calligraphy and paper-cutting, which enhances the cultural connotation and expressiveness of the font, and also reflects the overall sense and unity of the emblem graphics.
