From an ignorant teenager, to the fledgling of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, to the confidence and maturity of the Beijing Winter Olympics, Ren Ziwei's parents and enlightenment coach Wang Beiming know the story behind this change.

Ren Ziwei's father, Ren Changwei, recalled that when he was a child, he reported two interest classes for short track speed skating and violin to Ren Ziwei, and Ren Ziwei, who was active and mischievous from an early age, showed interest in skating.

"At that time, he had just started elementary school, and many children in the school learned to skate, and his father and I liked sports, and work was busy, so I let him stay in school for a while and practice skating for an hour after school." Ren Ziwei's mother, Li Yan, said.

Ren Ziwei showed extremely high athletic talent in school, and was soon favored by Wang Beiming, a coach who had trained excellent short-track speed skaters such as Wang Hongyang and Fan Hongwen.

"In the first grade, I took him from school to sports school." In Wang Beiming's memory, Ren Ziwei's ability is very comprehensive, his reaction is fast, there is no missing item, and he is "relatively fierce".

Li Yan remembers many details of the years when her son first practiced skating. "At that time, I took a bus to the stadium to train after school in the winter, and when I arrived home at night, I had to write my homework, get up at five o'clock in the morning, go to the ice again, and go to class after the ice." Li Yan said.

At that time, private cars were still "rare". When squeezing the bus home several times, Ren Ziwei said to Ren Changwei: "Dad, if our family has a car, it will be much more convenient to go to the ice rink for training." Ren Changwei encouraged his son: "You train well and achieve good results, and these dreams will come true in the future." ”

After practicing for several years, Ren Ziwei began to participate in large and small competitions. On weekdays, many people say that Ren Ziwei is generous and has a good personality. But Wang Beiming knows that "when it comes to the game, Ren Ziwei is more real than anyone."

"Once I lost a game to an athlete who was bigger than him, I came down and said, 'No, the next year, I'm going to fight for my life.'" There is one thing Wang Beiming remembers deeply, once Ren Ziwei's brother came to the team to visit his brother, Ren Ziwei took his brother's gold medal and loved it, "His brother joked that 'I want the gold medal to go by myself', which stimulated him deeply. Wang Beiming said.

In order to achieve good results, Ren Ziwei "desperately trained". "He just loves skating too much, not only coming earlier than others, but also leaving later than others." Growing up as a large president of the army, Ren Ziwei had an excellent quality of having a tough style and being able to endure hardships.

In 2010 and 2011, Ren Ziwei was injured twice and fractured, and each time Li Yan and Ren Changwei decided not to let Ren Ziwei continue to engage in short-track speed skating training. "Suffering from such a serious injury, Ren Ziwei did not cry, but just asked me , 'Coach, can I still do it?' Can you still skate? Wang Beiming recalled.

"If you can do it, I think you can do it."

"Then I'll practice!"

In order to let Ren Ziwei train with peace of mind, Wang Beiming often called Li Yan and Ren Changwei at that time, hoping that they could continue to support his son's training. During Ren Ziwei's injury, Wang Beiming also went to his home to give him rehabilitation training.

Recalling that experience, Li Yan felt that it was not easy to persist in the past.

"The school teachers also advised us not to practice, which was very tangled, but the children liked it, and we decided to fully support it." Li Yan said, "Later, in the national team these years, there were about 20 days of vacation every year, and I did not spend the New Year at home. Speaking of this, Li Yan's eyes shone with tears.

He entered the national team in 2014, and although he also won gold medals in the World Series, the gold medal in the Winter Olympics was Ren Ziwei's most important dream. The 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang was Ren Ziwei's first winter Olympic trip, but at that time, the strength was not enough to support him to realize his dream.

"When I came back from Pyeongchang, I asked Ren Ziwei, 'Can you still realize your dreams?' He said, 'Teacher Wang, I have to win a gold medal desperately, and I am missing a gold medal for the Winter Olympics.' Wang Beiming said.

Ren Ziwei did not live up to this persistence. In the four races of the Short Track Speed Skating World Cup before the Beijing Winter Olympics, Ren Ziwei performed well, with gold medals in each station, including two times on the highest podium in the 1500 meters.
