At the meeting, Ni Huizhong, director of the Winter Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China, summarized the overall situation of China's ice and snow season in 2022-2023. In the past season, the national teams in ice and snow events won a total of 14 gold medals in international A-level events such as the World Championships, the World Cup, and the Four Continents Championships (6 gold medals in short track speed skating, 3 gold medals in speed skating, 3 gold medals in freestyle skiing halfpipe, 1 gold medal in freestyle skiing aerials, and 1 gold medal in snowboard halfpipe), and the ski mountaineering national training team won 1 gold medal in the Olympic event in the U20 category of the World Championships.
Ni Huizhong said that from the perspective of event distribution, last season's gold medal points were still concentrated in traditional advantages such as short track speed skating, speed skating, aerials, and halfpipe, and there was no major breakthrough except for ski mountaineering.
Compared with the first season of the Beijing cycle, the total number of gold medals won by the Chinese ice and snow training team in international competitions is basically the same, but the number of gold medals won in figure skating, aerials and other events has dropped significantly. "Of course, there are objective reasons for the Beijing Winter Olympic champions to adjust the season, but it also exposes the shortcomings of the talent thickness of our so-called 'advantageous events', especially the lack of young athletes in figure skating, and the training and preparation prospects for the Milan Winter Olympics are still not optimistic." Among them, the short track speed skating national training team won the title of "ice sharp knife", the skeleton national training team won the title of "snow pioneer", and the curling world junior championships men's team, bobsleigh national training team and freestyle skiing moguls national training team won the "Season Progress" award.
