Qilu Evening News Qilu one-point reporter Chen Xiaoli
"I was waiting outside, my legs trembling with fear." On March 22, when his 22-year-old wife had her cervical opening and was rushed to the delivery room, Mr. Chu, who was waiting outside the delivery room, was full of anxiety and worry: his wife was less than 26 weeks pregnant, the child was about to be born, could the wife and children be safe?
For Mr. Chu's wife, this is not an ordinary pregnancy, she is pregnant with quadruplets. From pregnancy preparation to successful pregnancy to repeated obstetric examinations, it is full of hardships.
For the obstetrics team of Qilu Hospital of Shandong University, this is also a huge test, and it is already the result of all-out efforts to save the fetus to this gestational week.

As early as the end of February this year, Mr. Chu accompanied his wife who was 22 weeks pregnant to the hospital for obstetric examination, and the ultrasound examination found that the pregnant woman's cervix had become loose, and there was a possibility of premature birth, so the doctor admitted her to the hospital.
"The gestational age is too small, and if the child is born at this time, survival is difficult." Ma Yuyan, director of the second ward of Shandong University Qilu Hospital, told reporters that therefore, Ma Yuyan took a series of fetal protection measures such as emergency cervical ringing, hoping to delay the birth time of the child as much as possible.
Every sunrise and sunset, Mr. Chu and his wife are rejoicing and another day has passed safely. In this way, Mr. Chu and his wife spent nearly a month in anxiety.
Despite the best efforts of medical staff, premature birth is an almost inevitable problem for quadruplets. On March 22, 25 weeks + 6 days of pregnancy, due to the opening of the cervical opening, the first child was born, the boy, weighing only more than 700 grams, belonged to the extremely premature baby. Due to the low birth weight and imperfect development of various functions of the body, he was sent to the neonatal department of the hospital for treatment after birth.
"According to the past law, usually four children will be born together. However, considering the various risks, after full communication with the family, we did an emergency cervical cerclage for the pregnant woman. Ma Yuyan said. From a medical point of view, being born within 28 weeks of pregnancy is actually called miscarriage. With the technology of medical technology in recent years, the survival probability of children born after 25 weeks of pregnancy has improved, but there are still high risks and medical costs are relatively high.
Four days later, on March 26, 26 weeks + 3 days of pregnancy, the second child was born, also a boy, weighing more than 800 grams, also needed to be treated in the neonatal department.
The other two children continued to protect the fetus in their mother's belly. "After all, the fetus is not yet full-term, not yet fully developed, can be guaranteed one more day can develop one more day, the risks after birth and the cost of treatment will also be reduced." Ma Yuyan told reporters.
For quadruplets, such a delayed delivery method is very rare and risky, and it is a huge test for both medical staff and pregnant women.
"Because when the first two children were born, the cervical opening of the pregnant woman had been opened, there was a risk of infection; once an intrauterine infection occurred, there was a great threat to the life of the pregnant woman and the fetus." Ma Yuyan introduced that to this end, the medical team of the department has carried out a rigorous assessment in advance and has always been closely monitored.
It is reported that Qilu Hospital of Shandong University has repeatedly carried out delayed delivery for twins, and the delayed delivery of quadruplets is the first time, which is rare in the entire medical community.
At present, the condition of pregnant women and two fetuses in the stomach is generally stable. For when the other two children can keep the fetus, Ma Yuyan said that it is not yet possible to accurately judge, and will make every effort to continue to protect the tire, thereby reducing the risk.
At the same time, Ma Yuyan also reminded everyone that multiple births are not equal to doubling their joy. "In the course of a pregnancy, if there are two or more fetuses at the same time, it is actually a pathological pregnancy in medicine, and there are many risks for both the pregnant woman and the fetus." Ma Yuyan introduced that this is due to the fact that after conceiving multiple babies, the uterus is under greater pressure than under normal circumstances, and the fetus also needs more nutritional support. The incidence of preterm birth, gestational diabetes, gestational hypertension, fetal growth restriction, birth defects, etc. will increase greatly.
Therefore, don't simply think that multiple births are lucky. If you are pregnant with multiple pregnancies, you should go to the obstetrics department as soon as possible and follow the doctor's advice; you should have regular obstetric check-ups during pregnancy, and if you have discomfort, you should go to the hospital immediately.
