Ma Yuyan told reporters that in order to extend the gestational age as much as possible to increase the chance of fetal survival, a series of fetal protection measures such as emergency cervical ringing were taken for him, hoping to delay the birth time of the child as much as possible.
Despite the best efforts of medical staff, premature birth is an almost inevitable problem for quadruplets. On March 22, 25 weeks + 6 days of pregnancy, due to the opening of the cervical opening, the first child was born, a boy, weighing only 735 grams, belonging to a very premature baby. Due to the low birth weight and imperfect development of various functions of the body, he was sent to the neonatal department of the hospital for treatment after birth.
"According to the past law, usually four children will be born together. However, due to the anatomical and physiological characteristics of the premature baby itself, the incidence of some diseases is higher, the mortality rate is also higher, in order to increase the chance of survival of the fetus that has not yet been delivered, we fully communicate with the family, and then do an emergency cervical cerclage for pregnant women. Ma Yuyan said that at the same time, after the operation, treatment such as infection prevention and treatment was given, and the infection indicators and maternal contractions, fetal heart rate, fetal movement and other conditions were closely monitored.
Four days later, on March 26, 26 weeks + 3 days of pregnancy, the pregnant woman had premature rupture of membranes, and the second child was born, also a boy, weighing 870 grams, and also needed treatment in the neonatal department.
Ma Yuyan introduced: "From a medical point of view, those born within 28 weeks of pregnancy are actually called miscarriages. With the technology of medical technology in recent years, the survival probability of children born after 25 weeks of pregnancy has improved, but there are still high risks and medical costs are relatively high.
Since there was no obvious contractions in the pregnant woman after the fetus was delivered, Ma Yuyan's team performed the third cervical ring ligation for her, and the other two children continued to protect the fetus in the mother's belly. "After all, the fetus is not yet full-term, not yet fully developed, can be guaranteed one more day can develop one more day, the risks after birth and the cost of treatment will also be reduced." Ma Yuyan told reporters.
"We have done many cases of twins giving birth late, but this time the quadruplets naturally gave birth to two, and the remaining two are in the mother's womb, which is the first time for us." Ma Yuyan said that the delayed delivery of quadruplets is still relatively rare at home and abroad. It is also fraught with risks, and it is a huge test for both medical staff and pregnant women.
"Because when the first two children were born, the cervical opening of the pregnant woman had been opened, there was a risk of infection; once an intrauterine infection occurred, there was a great threat to the life of the pregnant woman and the fetus."
