In the first four sentences, the poet depicts for us the autumn scenery of slaughtering and desolation, "Cicadas singing in the empty mulberry forest, Xiaoguan Road in August; stuffing into the cold, everywhere yellow reed grass", cold cicadas, Xiao Guan, Saiwai, Yellow Reed grass, are typical border autumn scenes, Wang Changling began with these scenes, let people feel a chill, then, the harsh environment of the Zhengfu in Shubian, naturally it is self-evident.
Then the poet leads to the matter of Shubian, "Never merge with guests, all share dust and sand", Youzhou and Hezhou, are the border areas of the Tang Dynasty, where countless soldiers who volunteer and are forced to come are gathered, but no matter why they come, the ending is the same: all dust and sand are old. To stay here for a lifetime, until old age and frailty, can not go home, can only be buried in the yellow sand and white soil, this kind of ending, is really too miserable.

However, these are the views of others on this battle, and Wang Changling himself does not directly evaluate them, but ends with a strong contrast: "Yellow dust is enough to be ancient, and white bones are chaotic with basil." From ancient times to the present, Lintao here is full of yellow sand, and under the chaotic basil, there are the white bones of countless war dead! Wang Changling did not have a word of evaluation of the former "Great Wall War", but this cruel war was restored with a very good image, and the poet needless to say that the white bones under the basil are enough to explain the problem!
