The Xbox president has studied the N64 with the PS for understanding consoles and praised the N64 controller design for being cool

Xbox President Phil Spencer, who has publicly stated himself several times as a super gaming fan, spoke briefly about his ties to consoles when he appeared on the Xbox podcast earlier this weekend.

Phil Spencer looks back on his childhood gaming experiences through a podcast, where he talks about the shift from an internal Microsoft employee to an identity on the Xbox team. Phil Spencer said he never had access to modern consoles before the development of the original Xbox. So, he decided to do a console "crash course" and went to buy Nintendo's N64 and Sony's PlayStation.

Phil Spencer said that most of his historical games were actually in the amiga, Atari and PC space, and was not a veteran console player at the time. When Xbox launched, it was his first foray into console games, and before that it was playing Ultima Online, which at the time was mostly playing PC games. But when Phil Spencer joined the Xbox team, he bought the N64 and PlayStation to figure out what the console was.

Phil Spencer also shared some thoughts on these consoles, and he felt that the N64's controller design was unique, like a controller built specifically for a three-hand man, which is as good as its gaming, which is a bit cool because it's a bit like two controllers combined into one.
